This one went good with some granola cereal. Mmmmmmm and he was easy to clean.

We have one!! Had the first hatch of a possible 3 Eagles on Sat.. Mom laid 3 eggs.. Been watching/waiting and now got 2 more to hatch!! Cute little bugger it is!!

John, that is exciting! Watched one on a web camera last week. 1 down 2 to go. Keep us posted.

Ya know Floyd.. I got the "expectant father" feeling going on with these two Eagles. After they lost their nest and eggs last yr in a bad wind storm.. Every time the wind blows I have been holding my breath this yr..
Me/wife are looking forward to watching their adventure, hoping the other 2 eggs hatch and they all grow up to healthy Eagles!!!

This fellow was hanging around the feeder this morning. Some folks cut off the head when they take pictures, I seem to cut off the tail. Couldn't quiet capture the brilliance of his color.

Wow jmh, that makes me excited. Hopefully that third one makes it to maturity.

Last December we got this photo of a group of Canada geese resting in the icy waters of a little creek flowing through Kelly Wy. Always amazing to me that they can be so comfortable in such temperatures. Sleeping, standing on one leg in 34 degree water.

It has long been my understanding that birds' feet do not freeze because of a heat exchange system. Warm arterial blood coming from the heart
passes very close to the fine veins carrying colder blood up from the feet. Bottom line, an amazing mesh of veins in the feet is kept at a temperature so freezing doesn't occur.

Amazing. A House Finch showed up this afternoon. Have waited over a year to see one of these once formerly abundant birds. This winter I believe they chose to hang out at Philco's feeder.

QS I had a couple of them hang around for a while this winter but they must of gone to see you now. Still awfully knice to see them.

Congratulations Garry ! I'm glad you finally spotted one. I spotted my first female Cardinal yesterday. I've had a male (or males) coming to my feeder all winter but yesterday was the first time I've spotted a female all season.

Phil, just in case you missed an earlier posting of mine, for a long time we had 4 or 5 Cardinal males, and a couple of females. Now have one pair whom I hope will stick around.

Glad you spotted your House Finch, QS. I still remember when they first made it to my area on the Gulf Coast, about twenty seven years ago. Now they often are the dominate birds on my feeders. This winter I have had a nice bunch of Purple Finches. It had been a few years since I saw any of the Purples in my area.

Here are a couple of shots of my female cardinal. Her mate was around but was being a little bit skittish. I'll keep trying to get a good shot of him.

I was at a river today and I spotted a Barred Owl. There is a little backwater pond at the launching ramp, and while I was parking my SUV I saw an owl dive down and land at the water's edge. When it flew away it had a fairly large frog in it's talons. I walked over to the pond and within a minute or so the owl came back and landed over looking the pond. I know that owls swallow their prey whole, but that was fast work for something that size!
