This ladybug and piece of Candy corn are a couple quick fun whittles I did yesterday. Thanks everyone else for all your kind words also. I didn't carve these with this particular Case knife but I wanted it in the picture for size comparison.

Fun carvings and very knice knife.

A rustic carved humming bird out of cedar with a little bit of woodburning. And my GEC 12 just for size reference and to pretty up the picture.

I tried my first time at carving out a star today. Pretty happy with it. It's 1" in size. Used my Case Seahorse whittler. It's out of basswood. I'd love to get some butternut to try and carve with.

Thanks Floyd. You must have carved a few of these stars your self? It's actually pretty easy and I hope a lot of you that haven't, try making one.
Here's how: take a square block, it has to be square exactly, and mark a x from corner to corner on every side of the block Then measure center and draw a line through the center both sides on every side of the block also. It should look like this.

Then take your knife and make a stop cut on the middle of the line in the corner and carve a cut from each side to the cut in the center. Making a notch in the corner. Use your pencil marks for a guide to keep it even. So basically your carving out the " v part of the X on the block.
Stay slightly away from the pencil line of the X, then when you get all of the v's carved out on every side you can even them all up closer to the line. When you get done sand of or scrape off your pencil line and tip one corner up and you have your star. and please share your work or ask me any questions you have. I know there's a lot of others here who could answer a question.

You can use any knife just make sure it's sharp and please wear a leather glove on the hand you hold the block with so you don't cut yourself. A 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" block will be easier to work with. But it needs to be a square block.

A couple more pictures to help. Keep making your stop cut deeper in the middle as you go. Don't force a cut to hard, take smaller cuts and try to keep it even to the X line as you go. Look at both sides of the corner. Because your carving to the X on both sides at the same time. Take your time and enjoy working with your knife.

Tell her thanks for the guess, Steve. It chews, with #30...the opposing tooth, #3 is the upper right first molar.

Been a while since I had made any geese, so this Canada goose mini just got finished. It is 7 1/4"beak to tail, compared next to the Kamp King knife.
