I know its a free market, but that is ridiculous. Haven’t there been quite a few of those made in various covers.

If I added them up right for my earlier post I got 3887. Nearly 4000 of them and for some reason people go absolutely bat**** for them.

I guess the charred oak has become a hot commodity. Someone put another one up for auction. It closes a day after the above one. It's already at $365. Guess more than a few people are willing to shell out big bucks for it.

I think it is time to SELL, SELL, SELL !
Once this bubble pops the fall will be steep and fast. You miss the boat and end up with have a bunch of really nice knives but only worth about 1/4 of what you paid.
It is better to leave a little before the top than be caught in the drop.
Nothing lasts forever (except human greed) and i think the worsening Covid state will bring people back to basics.
I put a note in my day book to read this on Sept. 17, 2020, 30 days from now.

I posted this one yesterday on the page before this one. I’m watching to see how high it goes. My guess is that it’s about topped out and topped out early, but we shall see.

O.K. it is mammoth but it needs to be Pretty mammoth especially when spending over $700.

I guess what is said "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" is true in this case.
I find this knife very attractive.

For some reason the price is down to 760 on this knife. Yesterday it was 1025, I don’t get it. Did the high bidder have remorse? Did he think, I want this and I will bid over 1000 to knock out the competition and surely no one will go this high? I would sure like to know what happened in this instance. I guess I don’t know how it works when someone retracts a bid. It must go back to the last available bid? I thought it would have to be relisted and start over.

I agree with David. If I had been able to snag this Esky for the original retail price during the free-for-all lolly scramble release I would have been quite pleased. Instead, I ended up getting a dull turd-brown one with absolutely zero character and a badly off-center blade which I then sold a couple of weeks later for a slight loss (apparently nobody else wanted it that much either.) But, I can't see paying this kind of money for ANY modern factory made knife, even a GEC. Maybe I'm a "cheapskate," but as far as I'm concerned, for a traditional folder anything over $400 is getting into the custom knife price range.

Yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but i am surprised to learn that there are people here who perceive this mammoth as attractive. AS AAPK is just a small percentage of those who buy/collect traditional style knives this indicates that there actually are many people 'out there' who would like this particular mammoth Zulu knife.
I am surprised.
I agree with QTCut5, $400 is about my upper limit for a recently made production knife unless it is a total stand-out, exceptionally 'Oh Wow' attractive.

Possibly ebay recognized it as a shill (not sure if that's the right word) bid only made to drive up the price.

Trace, i doubt that is the reason. I have seen auctions in which a bidder with a very low FB number (like: 0 or 3, etc.) bids repeatedly every time he is outbid. Although this resembles shill bidding ebay did not get involved.

When I See Blades asking/selling prices on Ebay for 2 and three times more than their original price, It makes one cringe... Some of these knives can still be purchased from retailers. Some are not even special runs nor anything shocking. I must be be going blind. A lot of folks are going to hurt as many of these prices will burst in the next year or so. One thing to understand as since the new virus is here, GEC has only produced a fraction of production quantities. And at the same time there are plenty of folks working from home or have more time to purchase blades... My thoughts

That Esky Zulu went for 1175. I bet that seller is ecstatic.

There seems to be a plethora of Beer Scout knives on the bay as everyone is seeing the prices they are demanding.

Prices all over the place. Here's 2 essentially identical knives that went off 3 hours apart from each other...

The difference in value here is Used vs New.
Just shows how a popular pattern can hold value even as a user. Those 43s were about $90 retail if I remember correctly. The Frontier Bone and Rust Red Jogged Bone are both stellar as well, I have had several of each.

Tim, I saw that one this morning too and am just as baffled by it. Makes no sense to me.

When I see stuff like this my first thought is that it is a "decimal point" mistake. For example, this seller might have wanted to start the price at $100.00 instead of $1000.00. This seller has a few other knives listed at "typical" prices so it would seem this is a mistake.

The 3 blade #66 is not a particularly popular pattern. Until recently some dealers still had some, mostly with tortoise acrylic handles.

That would be a very logical explanation. You would think they would notice it though before posting since it stands out, but maybe only to knife nuts like me
