Thanks, Colonel, I think the Winchester is the highlight of the bunch. Shoulda waited to post 'til I checked my auctions tonight. I reinforced my collection of wooden slippies in satisfactory fashion, did excellent on the price for both. Some concerns with the shield on the half-Congress but the handles are beautiful and the price was more than right (plus I get to double up on shipping from the seller of that Winnie ). I wasn't really planning on dealing with the notorious red felt background feller but I haven't seen many Cases in this material and I made out like a bandit on the bid. I just hope these two don't turn out to be too nice to carry...
(Now if only someone can convince Case to make an old river log razor Barlow...)

USPS tracking says this one will be here on Saturday. Seller said the handles are wood but unless my eyes are failing me worse than I thought, they're a laminate material. I'm not really a stockman guy but I was so taken with the Coleman Trapper I got last year, I wanted another of the rectangular shield editions. What say ye? Sowbelly???

Jerry, good looking knife, I'm pretty sure the handles are canvas based micarta. Good stuff, can't hurt it . Terry

I'd say "sowbelly" and not wood. I'll ask the next question, your Honor, Who made the Coleman knife?

Terry -- I used the term "Laminate" because "Micarta", like "Kleenex" is a brand name.


Philip -- The first one I bought (trapper) has a stamp on the back of the primary blade "Seki Japan". This one looks like that may have been ground off. I'm sorry, I don't know who actually made them. I'm going to guess (and I assumed) they were made during that period in which Coleman owned Western. That may not be what you're looking for but it's all I have. Information from anyone who might know is welcomed.

Since we're being fussy about callin' Kleenex Kleenex, those look like composite handles Jerry and it looks like a sowbelly to me too. Micarta sounds so much nicer.

My Coleman is here in town a day early but as you all know, this is a postman's holiday so it won't get delivered until tomorrow. Sugar.

In the meantime, I bought this Kershaw Link 1776 and it's on it's way. The Link is a new one to me. Speedsafe®, liner lock, FRN handles, it's a fairly robust knife at 4.40" closed. The blade profile looks to be very much like the Buck Spitfire that I like so much.

That's pretty much it for this month folks. The Rat-1 will just have to wait until next month. Maybe.

Nice-looking flipper, Jerry. Do you know if it's Kershaw's 8Cr13MoV or the 3Cr13MoV they've been using lately? I've got very different opinions of both steels. Let us know how it performs!

Actually it is easier than most. There seems to be a detent that holds the blade closed but once the blade passes that, it seems to fly open.
I think it must have something to do with the blade geometry.

Ken, tracking says it's in Chicago. Delivery is recorded as Monday but maybe it will show up tomorrow. I'm eager to take it for a test ride.

Been watching this one for close to two months. He had it OBO so I did and he declined so I've waited. This morning his BIN was about $2.50 lower than the offer I made a month ago. Got it while the getting was good. I love these Black Box USA Winchesters so since I haven't bought a Dr. Knife in several years I jumped on it. Now where do I put it. Do I stick in in with the Doctor knives or do I group it with the Black Box Winchesters? Decisions, decisions. What to do? What to do?

Makes them easier to open if you put a thin strip of felt in the bottom of the knife.It keeps the blade from passing that "detent". On some knives, it renders them a flip-knife.

I've been wanting to try a Buck Knife in D2 steel, started searching for my favorite hunting knife (their 118) in D2 and found several. Just bought this one off ebay from a knife dealer in SC - should be here early next week. Sellers photo's. OH

Look what was in the mail today, a minty CaseXX/USA 6275, 3 dot (1977), bone handles! This one came from an AAPK store.
