Brian, Scott's right!! That's money buddy! The half moon tang stamp is definately old, and this is one of the first bolster tipped liner's!! I'm going to say late 30's, early 40's for sure...
In fact, it's quite possible this is Colonial's first official scout knife! I'm curious Brain, is there a belt punch on the reverse side??
Even if not, considering it's age and condition I would say it's worth anywhere from $ 40.00
and even higher to the serious collector!
I would stash it away if I were you....

No punch on this one, just the three blades and a small eo cutout for the can opener. Can't tell if the opener was originally this ragged behind the nail nick on the spine or if it has been damaged??? Either way I dig it

Hey Brian...that half stop you speak of is actually a square tang an gives a knife's age away quickly!! Most very old knives had square tangs and I am also a big fan of them.
The round can opener is another dead giveaway of an old Colonial, but this one is definately damaged on the back of the blade. Some dummy tried to open a 50 gallon drum or something to so this kind of damage and it's ammazing the blade itself didn't snap right off!! One more thing my friend, a three blade scout Colonial is very rare, and it didn't take long for us to add the belt punch and eventually, the cork screw on some models..
Once again Brian I would hold on this puppy for a while; I bet there are very few out there.
Too bad that blade's damaged... without that, in good shape, it could be worth anywhere from 50-75 bucks!! Look closely; even the pin on and the center rivet's are hand peened!!
This is an OLD knife!!

This was one of our most successful knives for many, many years! Colonial's # 2900 series
Electrician's knife was made in several versions but believe it or not, this particular style was the most popular one. The sales #'s from the past proves it...
The # 2902 had only two blades but your baby has the third big curved linoleum blade
which is the # 2903. I gave more of these to my friends for years with the intentions of seeing it's performance out in the field...OUTSTANDING was the vote from all. We did eventuallly make a "mental version" similar to this one for the Government, but that's another story. Even though Colonial for the most part, made inexpensive mass production knives, these knives were built TUFF!! Grandpa made sure of that till he was gone...
This model had .060 thick blades and springs and 1075 High Carbon Steel. The strength of the knife really comes from the .025 thick brass liners and cut scales. The main or top joint of the knife was tubular assembly but the center and butt rivets are big solid nickel silver nails! My only problem was that the locking wire stripper/screw driver blade was poor at best BUT, it worked in a pinch!
Even the plated bolster's held up over the years, like yours! Your knife could be made anywhere from the early 70's to early 90's.

Thanks for the info, Bobby. This knife got lost in a tool box for a number of years, as you can tell by the pits on the blades, but it is still a great workhorse.

One question, would you happen to know what the scales are made of? They are a unique color and are really tough. They have stood up well. Hard to find a good work knife like this anymore.

Hello "just plain Dave"..!! Yes sir my friend....these were models that followed our LB-95 and # LB-125 lockbacks. Rather than the nice polished blade on the LB series, these Coyote's had a rough blade grind and we used a lower grade of carbon steel...1060, I believe..The hard plasic handles were easy to hot die stamp and we sold thousands of them! The small lockback was our #CY-13, and the large version was our # CY-14....

Hello top!! Like that tough little electrician knife ey?? Yes along with the liners and solid nail construction, we used our own plastic molding injection proceedure and made wicked hard brown solid plastic handles that would take a beating!! Thank's grandpa...

I have another little Colonial that I just won, I thought you may be able to tell me something about it.

Thank you knifetime; you have struck on an old favorite. This brass shell knife and it's skeleton was made in so many ways, handle or shell cover's that I don't know where to begin! This old skeleton is what I am giving away FREE with any purchase of my book!!

This was our # 17 Shell Jewelry Knife's, made with two blades, and three blades including the scissor we imported from Italy!! You can't imagine the blanking, grinding, secondary press room operations, fit, screw together, inserting the appropriate spring, and finish involved in making a scissor blade!!
We eventually made our own when we started the high end # 2000 Swiss Series....
Naturally, the cost was worked into the final sale price..retail and wholesale..
This one is an old original and probably dates back to the early 60's....
We used to engrave a company logo or a man's name in that blank square in the middle....

Anyhow, here is a Coyote still in the pack. Every one of these I have seen has been green???
This particular knife is stamped "Colonial" instead of "Coyote."

Scott R. was the first recipiant of another very old favorite and he was blown away to say the least! You two guys are some of the best people I have never met! Not in person anyway. I seriously doubt anyone out there can show anything like this and so old, AND in absolute MINT condition!!! Consider the knife a priceless gift to a great guy!

So naturally, Joe has already retaliated like the crazy Rebel he is!
My Christmas gift came in a great big box delivered the other day; return address, North Carolina!! I knew I was in trouble already
I won't say another word untill I finish downloading the pictures of the beautiful contents of my box...THEN, the next day,comes another little package and this time, tears came to my eyes!! I can't believe this crazy southern boy.

I scored this Barlow in a "LOT" purchase from the bay, and frankly I'm not used to seeing Barlows that look like this from Colonial.....usually they have the smooth white plastic handles....

Yes this Barlow is somewhat unique with such a rounded butt and handles. It's an old
# 292, and we made so many styles and combinations, I loose track myself sometimes!
Solid nickel silver bolster's I believe too, ey? I would date this puppy back to mid 40's at least!! It's seen some action and God only knows who's pocket it was in for years!!
