I agree Charlie. Collecting these old personal tools can get you steeped right into the history of these old cutlers and cutlery firms.

I did go up there yesterday and took some pictures. A couple show my car on the edge of the road and looking over the site, as I said,
you would never know it was there.

I was wondering if the pictures would be a little confusing, many trees fell in a ice storm here a few years ago on Halloween night and really trashed the place.

Here is a Scarce "Tang Stamp" Platts/Northfield. Knife is 2 3/4" closed. Both blades stamped the same. Pretty Rare knife

Nice knife, Mark, but watch out for that particular celluloid.

Here's a Northfield display/exhibition knife I saw at the Dalton Knife Show.

It stretches all the way across the aluminum display case. The tip is not broken, just hidden.

It's a very large lock-back folding hunter with folding guards, although the guards do not appear to properly position when the blade is open.

There is a large complex etch on the blade. Hope you can see it.

The pics should expand with two right clicks.

Impressive knife.

Asking price on this was $9000.00.

Dimitri told me this same knife sold at auction a few years ago for 7K dollars.

Maybe the man that has it was the high bidder. I've known him for many years. He's always had some very high quality stuff. I bought one of my best Terriers from him.

Mark, thanks for showing that great Northfield pen ........... with really nice bolsters and what must be a very scarce stamp.

Has any one seen that stamp before? I know I haven't.

Wow Charlie, Awesome Picture!!! That has got to be the Largest Northfield I ever seen. I have seen many Display knives but thats the 1st Northfield Display knife I lay my eyes on. Thanks for sharing it with us knife peeps
Thank you FRJ for the compliments on the Platts. Any Platts knives are Rare & hard to find. Most of the time all you find are C. Platts knives. I believe my Platts Northfield is by Ray Platts if I understand my Readings in my knife Books. Hopefully, Someone who knows the Platts stuff better than I can comment on this particular stamping.

YES the last knife you pictured was made by Ray. I have a great newspaper article story on him in the GEC book. Interesting history of Ray. A picker by love, cutler by genetics.

FRJ, yes that knife I posted is a Ray Platts. The newspaper article shows a display board of his knives. A big fat toenail right in the middle. Oh what I'd give to find that display board of knives intact. I stay awake at night wondering where it might be. Behind some families dresser collecting dust and rust. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA where is it????????????????????

PA Knives, that is a great Platts knife. I have never seen another with jigged bone.

I just got this Ray Platt's Northfield from David Anthony. It is a real pleasure to have this knife. 2 7/8"

Here's a real nice Excelsior Knife Co. pen with plastic covers. A stamp used by Northfield Knife Co. between 1884 and 1905. (says Goins)
