Who? Me..? ::paranoid::
«Think» is a strong word to use for the activities of my single remaining brain cell...
I tend to grow more fond of the traditional looking knives than the new and more «tactical» ones, but I don't really know why. I own and enjoy using both. Maybe the use of natural materials is part of the explanation, but I also like the traditional patterns with delrin and other synthetic materials...
As long as the knives have a plain edge I'm not that difficult, but a knife with, say, a tanto design and a partially serrated edge... It will probably never end up in my pocket. I also have problems with all the modern recurved blades. They may look good, but from a practical point of view I don't see the need for those designs. I like to keep my user blades shaving sharp and the recurve certainly doesn't make the sharpening process any easier.
I guess I'm just kind of old fashioned... ::tired:: :)

I to felt this same way. Then I won this small cheep Moki for less than $30.00 on ebay. Man she is sharp out of the box. Even the serrated part was sharp. I was so impressed that I had to put her in my pocket to try it as an EDC knife. I liked using her so much I carried her for 2 weeks straight. So she is in my rotation of users now. The only serrated one I have in it, and a workhorse she is.

Froggy if you have $30.00 to play with buy one and perhaps this old dog will help you look at things differently

I'll seek some therapy and see if I can build up the necessary courage..!

I'm no hater of modern knives! A Ken Onion designed Kershaw Vapor has seen much pocket time this winter. Especially when spending time outdoors. Here my Vapor is resting after some work helping me make a fire and prepare a meal in the woods one freezing February evening. Plain edge though...

I picked up my new EDC this past weekend while antiquing at the Oregon coast. The knife was madeby Carl Gustav Spitzer of Solingen, Germany. I've looked at many web sites on Spitzer and have found nothing about his knife manufacturing, but he did make daggers and a hitler youth knife for the german army. His mark dates from the late mid 1800's to WW2. The knife I found is very solidly built, a double ended, serpentine, jack knife. Nice honey colored, jigged bone handles. I would guess it's age to be pre-WW2,nickel silver bolsters. All around, just a really nice find and EDC. ::tu:: Bull

OK. Got the camera working again. I know these aren't the best pic's, but it's the best my camera's capabilities will do at the time. This is the C. Gustav Spitzer I picked up over the weekend while at the Oregon coast. It measures 3 5/8 closed, nice honey colored jigged bone handles, with great snap left in the blades. It was a knife weekend as this was just 1 of 5 I picked up on from Friday thru Sunday. But I especially like this particular knife. ::tu:: Bull

I'm new to this forum, but it's hard for me to pass when someone wants my opinion-you can decide after you read my post if you really wanted it or not.
Since I have carried a knife just about every day of my life, I've had many favorites. I lost my much loved and abused Schrade automatic a few years ago and won't carry anything that isn't attached in some way. Clips being the handiest of course.
My favorite for some time now has been the Spyderco, there are two in the picture. One is a little worse for wear after 7 or 8 years and the other is, or was, my Sunday go to meetin' knife. These things are bullet proof, hold an edge and the slim design is real comfy. I often go for the combination serrated blade mostly because they cut rope and seat belts real nice. I train and by good fortune have not had to use a knife for tactical purposes, (concealed carry permit with a Kahr 9mm daily, also not used), but the Spyderco's are a nice tactical weapon except for the slick steel case.
The Kershaw is my left pocket carry, since I am right handed the spring assist makes sure I can get to the blade if I need it.
The Buck 112 (I have two of these, one of them for 35 or so years) is my "work knife". Not an EDC, but very often on the belt.
This brings me to the one least recognizable. It was a present from my wife this year because I would not step up and buy it myself. It's from a company out of Oregon, Lone Wolf Knives. I had been looking to replace my old Schrade auto, but had a long list of features that I wanted. This knife is indeed an automatic with a liner lock. It's a double action though and functions very well with just the manual thumb groove. The well hidden auto function is fast and solid, the blade is high carbon stainless and holds a nice edge. So without seeming like I'm selling for the company, I have to say that so far I'm real impressed and this knife is moving up as my right pocket EDC quickly.
I keep everything I own sharp enough to take the hair off the back of my hand.
Hey, thanks for asking!

I feel the same way.
Opinions and experiences from long time knife users are always interesting! ::nod::

You often go for a semi-serrated edge on your main (right pocket) knife.
Old fashioned as I am, semi-serrated edges have never really appealed that much to me. I see that they may have advantages for some tasks, though.
If I'm getting you right, you are carrying at least two knives on a daily basis.
I sometimes carry several knives too, especially when outdoors hiking etc, but most days I carry just one.
If I were to EDC two pocket knives and one of them with a semi-serrated blade, I would choose the one with the straight edge as my primary blade (right pocket) and the semi-serrated one would be the left pocket knife, kept as an extra and for those special tasks.
Do you find the the serrated edge to be superior for many tasks, or is the main reason for your preference potential emergency situations? When do you prefer using the serrated edge (besides rope and seat belts)?
You like to keep your blades sharp. ::tu:: How do you feel about sharpening the serrations? Difficult? Time consuming?

I'm also a long time user of the Buck 112! Sturdy and great knife! ::tu::

Thanks for sharing!
