Well Harold, Sorry it took so long to reply, my father-in-law is having total knee replacement surgery today.
The Remington Muskrat production pattern,"Fur Trap'rs" R4593 has the "lance" blades,(also known as "Texas Ticklers").The handles were American stag bone or from the shine bone of the stag. The "Trim",(caps, bolsters) were first made of steal as well the lining and spun pins. The blades were finished in Blue glaze. The bolsters were square but were also found in later production in the 1930's to have the round bolsters. This knife's closed length was 3 7/8". Later production of this pattern, (during Dupont leadership) the linings were made of brass and the bolsters were nickel silver. Dupont listened to the needs and suggestions of the consumers and in this case, actual Muskrat trappers and made variations to the knife that might be of benifit to the consumer in his task and in the field. The nail pull with a variation "match strike" was one possible addition.
I cant see the tang stamp of your knife nor the pattern number so I can't comment on your knife and it being an original production knife. My "quess", it possibly is a late production/transition knife. I hold firm that when Remington completed the owner factory transition and pulled out, PAL Blade could only produce and sell cutlery that had their logo on it. Blank blades and other production materials with
no "Remington logo" markings could certainly have been part of the factory purchase. Below is my R4593 and it has the early production spec./ material stated above. Sorry, I have not spruced this up as of yet.

Rocky Thanks, Prayers for your Father in law that all will go well. I wanted to let you know that this round
bolster muskrat is tang stamped in what I usually call 1933-1935 stamp. It also has the R4593 Pattern
number on the back side of the blade with the matchstricker pull. The knife has trace of light color ink
on back of blade that has the pattern number.

Harold thank you for your prayers regarding my father-in-law. Just received word from my wife he is out from PACU recovery and in his room and did very well through the surgery. Continued prayers would be most appreciated.
Again, nice looking knife. Thank you for showing it and for the chance to use some of my cobwebbed memory. It feels good to stretch the brain matter again. Keep those Rem's coming for show and tell!

Well hi Mark! That is so cool to know who you are. What a great collection of scout knives my friend I am sure you are the envy of many with that kind of display. Harold was telling me that you guys will be in Tulsa for a knife show in a month or so, asked me if I lived near so I could attend. Unfortunately I am unable to attend. I live out East in the state of Virginia.
Do you have any Remington knives in your stock or collection? If so please take a few moments and participate in the show and tell. Would love to see that Rem eye candy!

Amazing knives being displayed by all! I'm glad to see the interest in Remington. I have posted a few pictures on the Remington Photos thread. I will try to refrain from duplicating them over here, but from now on I will post in here.
This is a R4243 Bullet.
Thanks for looking.
