All About Pocket Knives

Just to add a bit to the LF&C lore, UNIVERSAL was their name for use on many products (such as Sears used the name CRAFTSMAN on many tool products). OH

While putting a knife away I came across a L.F.C. quite like the OP.
I didn't see a model number and the etching, if there ever was one, is long gone. 3 1/16" closed. 1/2 stops x 2.
Covers are still solid. Its a nice little well used knife.

My one and only, so far, is a L. F. & C. - U.S.A. (LANDERS, FRARY & CLARK), 2 blade, 1 tang stamp, 3 1/8" closed pocket knife. Both sides of the handle have an ad for "THE TRAVELERS INSURANCE COMPANY." I obtained this pocket knife as part of my continuing investigation into Whitehead & Hoag advertising pocket knives and which cutlery companies manufactured them.

Going back through this thread I noticed that someone had posted a L.F.&C. food chopper on page one. I bought one of those at a yard sale a couple years ago for $5 just for the name. No box and it only had two blades.
Dome other one's I have acquired since I posted originally:
A grapefruit knife.
A straight razor in box with gold accents and mother-of-pearl tang cover.
A boy's knife.
A trocar set(look it up;it is pretty gruesome in its use).
A set of table knives.
And finally the rehandling of my scout knife after I managed to set the original handles on fire while grinding a center rivet.

Neat old one, LF&C single clip with checkered hard rubber covers.

This is my only L.F.&C, can’t find no information about this particular knife. Single Blade, Ebony wood?, Brass liners, backside tang stamp includes the numbers 2244 3/4.

A little used 3 1/4" LF&C pearl Senator with Universal etch, has a pattern number etch on main also which I have not seen before, great little Sunday carry knife.

Landers,Frary and Clark started in 1865 but didn't enter the pocketknife biz until 1912, the same year they bought out Humason and Beckley. (Ref: Houston Price, OFFICIAL PRICE GUIDE. 10th Edition.)
Their cutlery was discontinued in 1950. Their knives are very nice. The "hard black" and "soft black" rubber scales seem to hold up better than some celluloid. J.O'.

I recently purchased this pearl L.F.&C. Tuxedo knife.

Never seen one with this stamp and in Pearl . Very nice .

I have two Robesons that are 3 1/16". One has a clip main. Number 622319
and a Permalube with a oilless bearing; it has a spear main. Bone covers on both.
I always thought that L.F.&C. made my knife but I could be wrong.
Actually I think Empire made something similar too.
What Robeson do you have similar to my L.F.&C.?

I've wondered if these bone handles are the real deal, if not someone did a good job putting them on.

Original or not I have no idea just wanted to say, I really like it original or not wish I could help you Bighomer, I’m sure someone will. Nice knife

I think that it is more likely that someone put an LF&C blade in a Schrade Cut Co. frame. LF&C didn't use bone very much. If you look back through these pages you see MOP, celluloid and quite a few rough black handles bu very few knives with bone.

Thaks btrwtr, something like that's what I was afraid of. Got it from my ole flea mkt. bud for cheap, told him at the time it was a knife that you seldom saw in bone he thought it was legit but I shot him a offer and he hem- hawed around but took it as I was walking away. It's a fine looking knife and some more sharp so it's makes a fine toter.
