All About Pocket Knives

Phil I believe those Ulster USA knives had the same blade steel as the old Imperial knives and if I'm correct they will sharpen up enough to shave a cat. Great blade steel.

These two Queen #10's arrived today.
The black composite is probably 1941 or earlier. It has brass liners.
The Winterbottom is tipped as you can see compared to the other. Too bad. The bone is really nice on this one. Circa 1945-55.

I got this knife from Ray (Palidan) today. Pretty sure it's a Remington R3050. Buffalo horn for handles. Milled liners inside and out. My first buffalo horn knife. Thanks Ray.

AG Russell Amber Bone Wharncliffe Curved Regular Jack
Years ago I bought the Smooth White Bone version new from the AG Russell catalog for $65. I liked it so much, I decided to get the Amber bone version as well; unfortunately, all the wharncliffes had sold out. I've been looking for one ever since and finally had to settle for this factory second (but for only $37, I'm not going to let a few minor imperfections bother me).

This Camillus arrived in the mail on Monday, a birthday gift to myself. Bought it off the bay and am quite pleased that I did, looks even better in person than it did in the listing.

I had about 50 of the WW II 2 blade, jigged bone EO Jacks with a bail, most Camillus, some Imperial. I bought them all individually on ebay some years back when the price averaged about $20. It impresses me what a well made knife they are. Nearly all were used but none (of 50 !) had any significant blade play and all retained snap (or re-gained after oiling).
I sold them all to an ebay seller so they all got 'out there' again.

Thanks TreeFarmer, I'm pretty new to collecting knives but after a couple recent pick ups of older knives I'm starting to lean in that direction now.
Thanks K.J., this one is solidly built and has that good snap you described. Between that and the beautiful bones I'm more than pleased with it.

Here's an old Queen I got in a trade with edge213. It is very solid, great Winterbottom handles, 1/2 stops and snaps like the proverbial gator! The main blade has probably been tipped and then reshaped, I think. My understanding is this would be a #10 if it had the clip blade or a #18 if had a spear. Probably a #10. Also notice the great bone handles are slightly different colors. What ever it is, I'm proud of it! It qualifies as a HOK! Treefarmer

treefarmer....nice pick up. I believe it's a #18. I also posted on the Queen forum and here's some of my post......

I took some measurements and it looks as if you have a #18. The position of the nail nick is different between the #18 and #10.
With the blade in the open position, the measurement from the bolster to the start of the nail nick measures 32mm on the #18 and 20mm on the #10.

I did not know of this knife even though i have quite a few Buck patterns, so it is a rare knife and great score. Thanks for showing it. Now i am going to be on the lookout for a 551 as i'm trying to get 'one of everything'. I misheard the Buddhist teaching "one with everything", but it's too late to turn back now.

Thanks Joe, I see this one is talking to you........I was shocked when I saw this up for sale. I've only seen a few and people wanted insane prices for them. I think I paid a fair and honest price for this one. I only have few buck knives, my 110 work horse and a Buck 204 Koji from Seki. I was happy to add this to the collection.

PCWizard--That is the BEST looking Buck knife I have ever seen, hands down. Congratulations on a really sweet score. You do seem to come up with a lot of very cool knives that 'speak' to me, too...maybe it's something in the Hawaiian water?
