I'd kinda like to try one of those cap and ball revolvers. But alas, it ain't likely to happen.

No, it doesn't break open. It's an Italian made copy of a Colt 1860 Army, cap & ball revolver.
The lower one is a Keltec PMR-30.

...looks awful similar to the one my grandpa(police chief 24 yrs-1924-1948) used to carry in a shoulder holster(he was so big, he couldn't carry it on his belt), but I remember it wasn't a cap & ball, it shot cartridges-I shot it once when I was little and it knocked me down!!!!.......... .................

If this isn't a hoax and given the condition of the wood on that gun I suspect it is not, there's a story there for somebody to write.

Great story Charlie. Thanks for posting it. IMHO, very believable given that arid climate. I once left an axe near a remote campsite in the Arapaho National Forest in Colorado, only to return 2 years later and find it, much to my surprise, exactly as I had left it. Although it must have had several feet of snow on it over two winters, there was no rust on the bit or any deterioration of the wood handle, looked like I had left it there the day before. Later when I stopped by the ranger station to check out he told me he wasn't surprised. Said only 2 or 3 people a year went up to that area.

I read about that rifle a day or so back. That's always interesting to wonder what happened and when it happened.
When I was a kid we went to see my grandmother in Colorado. Passing through Texas, New Mexico, or Colorado, we stopped at a roadside museum and they had a bunch of guns and saddles and such that had been found in the desert. I remember my Father talking with the owner and comparing what would happen if items like those in the museum would have been left outside in Florida. Rust and termites would have taken their toll rather quickly.

I read that article about the old Winchester on a hunting forum site - it would be cool to make a find like that. A good buddy of mine, now deceased, had a wonderful gun collection. One of his neatest pieces was a Colt Dragoon that his Dad had found in the 1940's in the desert near Kingman AZ. Wish I had a photo of it; I believe his brother in AZ ended up with the revolver after his passing. OH

...may not be able to buy many knives this year!!!.....just ordered myself an original henry H011 lever action .44-40 rifle and 2 boxes of ammo!!!.....i'll be broke the rest of the year!!...... ..........

HELP PLEASE my friends!!!!!

I spent 2 frustrating hours looking for some GENUINE Pearl or Black Pearl grips for my Springfield Armory 1911-A1. All that came up was fake, imitation and synthetic pearl. Besides that, some real pearl was seen attached to guns already. Pretty pieces but just want the grips. I would also consider some Stag, Ivory or Bone.
Saw some Elk but it was abit white for my taste. I guess I could die it to look like stag.

Not too concerned about fragility on the pearl as I am pretty good about handling. Don't recall ever fumbling a knife let alone a gun. If I went with pearl, not to concerned about smooth texture, or lack thereof, as far as grip is concerned.

I am very happy with the looks and especially the feel of the current wood grips. It also came with some black synthetic grips, I think G-10 maybe.

I am more of a functionality rather than looks guys on guns. However, I do appreciate the looks of a beautiful and functional gun also. Maybe some guys may not be into it but a pearl handled 1911 sounds pretty sweet to me. I would be happy with some bone or stag also as I said.

I would want the handles to be the same shape as the current ones as the feel on them is incredibly comfortable. I may just "leave well enough alone".

I posted her before but here is the gun I MAY want to get some new grips on.

Any ideas or leads to at least seeing what is available, even if I don't pull the trigger on it, so to speak, would be greatly appreciated.

I greatly appreciate all our military's service for our country including of course, General Patton. Patton's service to our country has my respect, not his view on pearl handled or otherwise handled guns. I could give a rat's behind about that, no offense intended. Everyone has there own views and taste. I would assume Patton viewed pearl knives the same way. Even though I own a few that I really like as do others that post some fine ones they seem to like quite abit. Eye roll all you want.

Do you own any pearl knives? If so, I assume Patton would think that is a pimp carry or collection knife also.

As I said, I would entertain ivory, stag or bone also. I am certain I am not the only one that appreciates a pearl handled revolver or slide gun. Or an Ivory one for that matter which is harder to come by now. To each his own as they say. As I also said, probably not for everyone.

I guess this means you have no input as to where to find Pearl, Ivory, Stag or Bone 1911 grips which is what my original post inquired about. Thanks anyway.

I found a nice set of stag grips on EBay for a Springfield armory 1911 loaded model.i think I gave around 140.00.looked real nice after I got them on.you may try looking on there,as for pearl not to sure about that.

Jerry, there was a time when Jay Scott was either a division or an affiliate with Colt's Ptd. Firearms Co., and sold aftermarket grips and magazines for Colt's. I do not know whether or not they offered genuine pearl or black pearl - from a quick search I see that SARCO offers Jay Scott grips now (could be current or old - I'm not sure). I had some nice custom grips made for an N-Frame roundbutt S&W about 12 years ago - company named Arends (I think I have that spelled right) - they would make you anything you wanted at the time - you just had to wait a few months for them to be made and arrive. Eagle was another company that made exotic aftermarket grips for popular handgun models (I have a pair of their stag grips for a NM Ruger Blackhawk). OH

Ps Be careful when ordering Sanbar Stag grips - I ordered a pair about 20 years ago for a 1911 - when they arrived I was wowed by how beautiful they were - until I installed them on the pistol - they were so thick it felt like I was holding a 2x4! Luckily I could send them back to GA and exchanged them for a set of nicely fitted Python grips.

Thanks much for the lead OH! I certainly would not mind stag. I favor stag quite a bit. As long as they are oversized, I could always sand them down.

Yaqui holsters are the best IMO...

Thanks again OH and Justin. Roofsc, thanks for the great link. That guy does some beautiful work. The pearl grip are indeed stunning to say the least. It says "Call for Price" so I am sure they are pretty spendy. I might go with some white swirl buffalo horn he makes.

My Dad did some awesome woodworking when he was alive. When he passed just over 3 years ago, I took all his woodworking tools and some fine pieces of leftover wood from his shop. No exotic woods, walnut, oak and such.

I will never be able to work wood like could but I might even try to make some grips from some wood I harvested from his shop.

We will see....

Just got this Browning Safari BAR 25-06 --- mounted an older model Burris USA, 3X10X50 scope on her,then off to the range, I went **** ------ can I say ""SUGAR SWEET"" and not lose my man card ???? ---- very smooth shooter,with almost no recoil**** ( my hunting ammo of choice -- 115 gr.Nosler Partition )___ this one,will spend some time with me, in a deer stand next season ___ I'm almost positive !!!!
