Here's a G.H. Richards pruner with big ol' thick stag handles. It has what I assume is an address "234 Borough S.E".....as well as the number "3" stamped on the back.

I have listed this on AAPK before, but no one could offer any info. Goin's doesn't list anything (at least that I could find). I am assuming this is a Sheffield knife from around 1900...plus or minus 20 years?
Hi Mike. I don't know if you still have the knife, but I recently acquired an almost identical one. It turns out the address is" G.H. Richards 234 Borough, London, S.E., England", and they were a horticultural supplier in England. Mr. Google turned up a few of their ads from the early 1900's in the Florist and Nursery Exchange. The ads are on microfilm, so the best I could do is a screenshot. I'm assuming they were made for Richards by one of the Sheffield knife makers. Mine is also marked "3", so maybe they were made in other sizes as well?

That is a beautiful old knife, Herb, as well as some good info that you dug up. Great stuff!!!

Clifton Cutlery Co Cincinnati,Ohio. Still has good snap and no wobble on the blade. 1905-1909 era. Thanks for looking and any thoughts or comments?

Nice find. Can’t tell what it says either, but it appears to be the same font they used on other advertising knives of the period.

Thank you for the welcome. I've searched quite a bit , but will continue as I have free time. I found it in a front counter display at an antique shop among a few other various more modern knives and EDC .This one caught my eye , I knew it was special. 3$ sounded very reasonable to me!

An old one you don't see every day, Battle Axe Cutlery Co, Philadelphia Pa. Not much known,1897-1937 time frame, really nice bolster stamp and tang stamp.

John that's a great one. I tried for years find some of those. The Battle Axe brand was used by a hardware wholesaler named A.R. Justice around the turn of the century in Philadelphia. At one point it seems thatn he even had a small production facility that made knives under his name but eventually he contracted all of his knives to sell in his hardware business. I've got a gentleman's knife from the early period and a butcher's knife and steel from his later days. I'll dig them out in a bit and take a pic.

Here’s a rare set of Washington DC knives that took me decades to bring together, also a never before seen catalog photo from the shop that had these two knives exclusively for sale in DC showing them. The larger knife is signed “V.D. Brenner “ most noted/recognized as the one who designed the 1909 Lincoln penny. Thought I’d share it with y’all here.
