All About Pocket Knives

Some new ones today.

These two came in the mail today. I don't recall if I have ever been as disappointed with a knife as I am with this Sting.
The handle is absolutely worthless, it has to be the most slippery knife ever devised. It would take a lot of checkering to make it useable. Or maybe coat it with glue and then roll it in sand.

These arrived after the long weekend...

Schrade Walden, Schrade Walden (broken tip), Hammer Brand, Schrade Walden, (missing shield and has crack), and VIC SAK Electrcians knife...

The one right in the middle looks similar to my Ulster.

Check out this New Jersey Knife Co (1919-20) American Ace Bullet End Jack.
It has yellow celluloid handles and is 3 3/8".
I've never seen this tang stamp before and the net has limited info.
If you have any NJ Knife Co knives, please post 'em.

Great find Bruno and that bad boy appears to be in excellent condition for it's age with fat full blades.

A Herman Williams Schrade 51OT with scalloped handles, clipped blade and red C-Tek scales.

Wow Doug! that fair 'jumps out of the screen at you" those Red C-Tec Scales are stunning.
Should be easy to find if you put it down some place inadvertently.

You're right, that one would be a little hard to misplace... on the other hand, this 165OT with Ram's Horn kind of blends in, Herman made it for me for helping him set up his AAPK store. Way too generous...but how does one turn down a knife? He knows I'm a fool for blue liners.

My head snapped back when I saw the red scales. Awesome.

I don't think that's humanly possible. Especially with a knife that good-looking.

Today's mail was exceptionally satisfying: 2 GECa. Both Beer Scouts in my current favorite pattern, E/O. On the right is Golden Ale with acrylic scales. On the left Draft Beer with bone scales.

Let us know how those GEC 38's feel in the hand. Their design looks kind of thin at the back.

Bruno, it's a typical Wharncliffe-style frame, about 3 7/8" long. It's a little light on the thin end compared to multi-blade folders -- especially whittlers -- because there's much less steel there, but when the knife is open in the hand it feels secure and comfortable. I did take note of the balance the first time I held the knife but after carrying it and using it a couple times yesterday I have no problems with the grip even in my meatpaws.

The 48 Improved is one of my favorite patterns. That Bloodwood looks goooood!!

Love the bloodwood 48 improved. Something about it feels just perfect (almost silky!) in hand. And it's a hunk of knife in a not very obtrusive package. I think this one is going to be the hit of the most recent 48 run by far.

Picked up a near mint Case 2345 1/2 cattle knife and a Crown Cutlery wharncliffe whittler at a flea market this morning, along with some other "treasures" that included a pretty neat looking hydraulic table top vise, a large Craftsman toolbox and a tool with a cutting edge with hook attached to a 36 inch handle. The real fun part is the other people.

Anyway, I've attached a couple of pics of the knives. The Crown Cutlery knife concerns me on a couple of points: Shield is on the wrong end, pivot pin is too proud on one side, the wharncliffe blade is heavily buffed with still much pitting in evidence. No looseness, happy with the thing regardless, more curious than anything.

Someone spent extra time on this as the F&F are several steps above the usual Kissing Cranes.

This budding knife came in today. Its made by a company named Icel in Portugal. The seller said it was made sometime in the 60's. I checked and they are still business. Got it cheap from a guy in Portagal for $9.00 + shipping. Anyone familiar with this company?

Nice Randy. Must be something in the air as I got this corn Knife out of the mail. Corn as in your feet, not the field. Hope it isn't used.
