All About Pocket Knives

I found this little knife on eBay for $6, the red bone scale had a large crack from the center pin.
This is how it came back from Dale Vincent.
The $10 pre 1973, 8OT is my EDU now, after Dale cleaned it up a little.

I'd have to agree with you...Schrade really got it right with the Red bone Heritage sets. The Red bone on this Ducks Unlimited is a little faded but it sure is pretty...almost a sunset color at the bolsters.

I believe the 1985 Red Bone Set of 3 Old Timers, is the best bone handled knife I have seen... Ken

Here is my latest one...A gold filled etch on the Statue of Liberty Knife with Bone handles

Statue of Liberty Knife is one of my favorites. I have the gold filled etch sterling silver bolsters one as well. Also have the regular etch Liberty knife with the poster, cases and other goodies that came with that package.

Isn't the jimping on the back springs nice?

I've had this a few years but it is the latest, i.e. most recent, I've got. Neither rare nor old, I just think it is a classic Shrade: PH2. It strikes me now I should put this in the fixed blade thread.

Q.S, I like those PH2 Loveless type knives.
On the 21st of September 1971, at Wolfie's Coffee House - 330 West 58th Street, New York.
Mr. Loveless sketched his knife on the back of a menu, while meeting with Schrade persenale.
I have a copy of both sides of that menu... Ken

Hak, i did not recognize your knife as a Schrade Cut. Co. until i enlarged the picture and read the tang. Looks to be almost 'as new'. What is closed length ?

No problem Ken. I ran across it a few years ago in a post from Codger on BF. Saved the link. I Dont think it has a working link on the collector site at least I couldn't find it. Gotta love computers.

To add yes I have a large loveless hole that I will fill someday if the right deal comes along or I trip over one.

This is an invoice for one of my RL2 [first Loveless knife]
$100 was a lot of $$$ to pay for a knife, back in 1976... Ken.
The D'holder knives sold for $200 back in 2000 - Same price for the Lake & Walker, or $400 for the two knives in a numbered set.

You have all the coolest toys Ken.

I've been admiring your collection in your posts for years as well as many others.

153uh was the first Schrade I got as a gift from my pops the first year he took me deer hunting back in the late 70's. Still in use today albeit with a bit more patina

Wish I had started my enthusiastic collecting a few decades ago, but life, family, work etc...

Phil, this is what started me off collecting Schrade knives.
This has been my EDU since 1973, and I have used it 3 or 4 times today already.
You mentioned family; My daughter and her two girls do not use knives.
Over the years, my son has destroyed some very fine Schrade and Buck knives, taken from my Collection.
Family is the best Collection one can have, as you said "the knives are only toys"... Ken
The 8OT took me the longest time, to find.

Here is a really bad pic. My first Schrade from pops the 153uh, a 225OT I bought in 91' and a 226OT I ran across a few years ago.
153 and 225 go with me every year on deer hunts. Three adult girls two in college one married. All three love to go shooting with me only one really likes to deer and bird hunt with me. The other two just enjoy the camping along with Mom. All three expressed an interest in the modest collection I've put together.

That particular photograph shows an original bone 8OT in the SECOND generation PAPER box designed to look a little like wood. The first boxes were made of cedar. So far since 2007 I have seen maybe nearly ten of these beauties, most of them in photos only.

The first 8OTs were sold in 1961 to about 1964, all came with the Saw-cut bone handles.
All of these knives were sold in bulk boxes of 12 knives, and the first singly boxed knives, came in the Cedar box.
[much the same as the 25th Anniversary 34SS]
Some of the match-stick pulls, show some variations in the early knives.

Before Schrade stopped using the Saw-cut bone [1963-64] the 8OTs were sold in the fake wooden box.
All the early [1961 to about 1969] boxes were all hinged.
From about 1969 to about 1972, the 8OT knives came in a brown un-hinged box.
Some of the later 8OTs, also sold in tubes.[1970-73]
I have tried to find more history about the 8OTs - to-date this is the best I can put together... Ken.

I date this mid-1960's 8OT about 1964-65. Paper work states "Meerschaum Bone handles"
Schrade used this name for their 8OT's handles, when they started to use Delran.

The Mint 1961 Saw-cut bone handled 8OT, is owned by another Australia Collector.
The very early 8OTs had a different shield, as shown in the 1961 flyers.

Ken, i have read many posts that give 1958-59 as the date for the first 8OT's which had bone handles and came in a real wood box.
The dates you give are later (1960's) but surely you agree that other well established Schrade collectors believe the date is late 1950's ?

I believe the bone was long-gone by 1961.
