Thought they were gone! A closer look and I saw they had just moved off the nest out to some of the branches.
Won't be long, boys, before they're airborne! ::ds::

Got a picture today of an elusive but beautiful bird, the Painted Bunting. We get a sighting of one of these guys a couple of times a year but rarely have a chance for a picture. Today was my lucky day. Pictures could be better but considering I took them with my phone through the shutters and a window with a screen on it, I’ll take it!

Click to enlarge and enjoy the beauty of this guy!

Beautiful Bunting, Ken. In my whole life I have seen only two or three of those. I wish they were a bit more common, or maybe I should say I wish they spent more time in this area.

Wow, Ken! That's cool.
What a beautiful bird.
Looking at the range map, even our summers are too cold for them!!

So one of the eagle kids spent the night in the nest. This morning he spent a lot of time flapping his wings. Now he is stationary in some upper branches. The thing is, he must be getting hungry. He needs to summon up his courage and launch.

According to the range map they should be in your area Mel. Some even spend the winter along the Gulf coast. The trick is in spotting one in the first place because according to my bird books they spend most of their time in brushy thickets. Plus only the adult males at least two years old sport those brilliant colors. Females and juvenile males through their first year are green. But they are “occasional” visitors to feeders. Which is the only time I’ve ever seen one around here.

Steve, one of my books says they occasionally stray outside their normal range, up into your area. Says one even spent the winter in NYC’s Central Park before.

Saw the remaining eagle voraciously eating something; sort of looking like white stringy flesh. Don't know where it came from.

The Hays nest is in Hays Pittsburgh, PA, right next to the Monongahela River.

Found both eagles, one in the nest the other on a branch. Later one alone on the branch. But I cannot find where one takes off and leaves the other. I just left the site with just the one on a branch.

Hummers. While I was sitting on the porch today having lunch and a lemonade, took these pictures while three hummingbirds were fighting over one of the feeders, about 6 feet from where I was sitting. :D

Great pictures Ken! Saw a lot of hummingbirds at my mom's house in MD. Beautiful creatures they are. There aren't any in Germany. Your porch looks very inviting. ::tu:: :D

It appears the eagles have flown the coop!
Went back 12 hrs on the time line and no sign of them, not even in the branches.

May they live long and prosper. I surprised myself about how much I rooted for their success.
