Thanks guys. We enjoyed ourselves....Pretty sure this will be an annual thing for me and my buddies going forward.
Garddog - it was nice to get out of these old pine trees around Houston and up on a hill where you can see for miles. Lot's of folks don't care for the open plains, but I love being out on the prairie.

Taking my two oldest children to the airport about Noon today for their flights and then heading to the woods - we had a great Christmas, nice to be with all my family, but now it's time for some solitude and reflection. OH

Hey Scott! Looks like y'all are havin' a great time! Next time you need to turn that knife so we can see what you're usin' to peel them apples

. Is that part of your group standin' in the back in the green shirt or is that some dude sneakin' up on the troops

? Refreshing my knife friend

Philip - yeah, that's part of the troops....there were 4 other adults!
The knife was a stag handled Edge Brand #496.

Seems like we had more active outdoor thread last year, I know I'm not doin' my part draggin' around with this new hip and Miss Joy tellin' me all that's against Doctors orders

. I was able to ride the cart down through the woods and check the game camera. It's seems so strange not to be in the deer woods, this was one of the reasons I retired.
Our rut peaks around the 3rd full week of January. Only one old doe in the bunch appears to be coming around in the pictures by the feeder, all rest have clean tarsal glands. A few does have been killed, no body is reporting any big bucks moving yet. Guess we were fortunate to kill the little 4pt on Thanksgiving Day.
Here's a couple of pictures of what we would be watching if it weren't for hip surgery recovery

Nice pics Treefarmer! I would have posted more myself but our deer herd numbers are way down where we hunt due in part to the crazy severe last two winters. It's all buck only now, no doe tags issued... No one in our group got a deer this year bow or gun season!
Here's a pic of me up in a tree NOT seeing any deer!
And here's part of the crew sitting around the cabin talking about the deer we didn't see!

TreeFarmer___ I haven't seen but (1) since I killed my third one ( Oct.21 ) below** --went with my neighbor Saturday,he killed a big 134 lb. doe --sorry no pics***________tommorow is the last day of our season--but I've hung up the gun till next year ----weather's to cold for my ol'bones and there's to much football on TV

__hope you get to hunt soon and the heath improves !!!!!

Mike......love that cabin!! Sucks there are no deer taken man. I know where my brother lives in western NY he has like 5 tags and didn't take a deer.

The State is issuing deer tags to help control the population and guys are only shooting trophy's (not for meat). Saddens me.
My dad used to tell us...."only shoot if you KNOW FOR A FACT he has horns"......not how big and many.
MONK.....nice kill!

Good to see this thread get active again; I went on my last deer hunt of the season this past Tuesday afternoon, shot a decent size doe late in the day (my second doe this season - no bucks). Deer season is over today, but I'm done deer hunting for the season and down at the beach to watch a couple of days of football. Going to do some rabbit and some waterfowl hunting over the next two months, then on to turkeys in April. OH

Nice shot 'dog. Looks like a clean head shot, no picking' shotgun pellets out of the Brunswick stew for you

That's a fine looking LLBean Schrade there as well.
