A few weeks ago I gathered up some of my knives that needed work, and some that I wanted worked on. I sent them off to Herman for his magic touch. They all came home Saturday. Someone on this forum asked if it was weird to hug your postman., I'd have to say...no....I don't think so.

Hug your postman....LOL

I don't hug my postman....but I do give him a knife for Christmas each year. This past Christmas I gave him a Red, White & Blue Kirinite Canal Street Pinch Lockback. I chose this particular knife because of the colors....he is retired Military.

This year I will give him a new Schrade USA...not sure which pattern yet.

I would like to suggest a 97OT, which is one of the most useful of all patterns. A terrific gift and even more special if it comes with the leather sheath.

As Ken stated, that knife is from a Tradesman Set. The sets came in Red, Brown & Green Bone, 5 knives each. There was a Miner, Rancher, Farmer, Lumberman and Fisherman. The serial number indicates the bone, if it starts with R---Red, B---Brown & G---Green. Each knife in an original display set has the same serial number.

I am fortunate to have all three sets complete and I have included a poor quality picture. I also have an incomplete Green Bone Set in the display, missing two knives.

These are great sets and it appears you got a nice knife from one of those sets. Congrats! ::tu::

There is a Brown Bone Set on the big auction site right now going for BIN $295.00, free shipping. Not too bad for a complete set in original display case...$59.00 per knife

Just search Schrade Display

Tom, do you know whether those particular knives are stainless or not?

My 1981 Tradesman set, came in an unopened white box.
Inside the box, was the Display, five small white boxers holding each knife [raped in grease-prof paper.]
Paper-work, show were each knife is to be placed in the Display.
All knives, had engraved shields and etched Schrade+ blades.

I believe these knives were sold later one eBay, one at a time with out the Display.
Braking up sets from Displays, has always made better money for the sellers. ::dang::
I found single knives selling on eBay, from time to time [5 or 6 years ago] ::dang::

This is a 194OT Old Timer, blade etched 1984.

Yes, stainless. Thanx; I had forgotten. Looks like I have a coupla these knives available for anyone who needs one. They're very pretty. My interests have moved steadily to the pre 1947 knives and I have a lot of nicer items from more recent years that will gradually move over to more interested parties. Gotta couple listed on the bay starting next Sunday and 2 finishing this Sunday. Potogumbo on the bay that's me. There will be a steady trickle of Schrades over the winter.

What is the connection of the 194OT from 1984 to the Tradesman set from 1981 ?

Same knife in the same time frame. The Tradesman sets were sold in 1981-2.
Schrade was giving the same knife to their distributers in 1984 (same frame, same lock-back, single blade knife)
I often use the give-a-way knives, to date other knives... Ken

I've always been curious about the jigging on the Tradesman knives. Does anyone know anything about it?

Not really, but I think the Parker knives done by Schrade in 1978 had the same kind of jigged bone (Bison stockman, and a trapper and a muskrat). I once heard it said that some of Schrade's bone came from Germany. Could this be a Parker connection? And I have also heard that a lot of knife bone comes from Argentinian cattle. All of this is speculation; no hard facts.

You are welcome Hak. I like the Half Congress pattern a great deal and one made by Schrade Cut Co with peachseed bone handles is a top example.
It is the single spring, 2 blades that i find so appealing and the Half Congress with it's back curving spine is a unique example of this.
