I'm trying to talk my wife into taking a trip to ride the Grand Canyon Railway: https://www.thetrain.com/ Has anyone done this? Her first response was that the train would be "full of train nerds like you."
That would be really cool, hope you can make it happen. . I talked my wife into spending the day at https://www.borail.org/ and then going to a model train at Timonium Fairgrounds, which is close to Baltimore. October 15th & 16th.
It was AWESOME. I highly recommend it to any train fans. Being from California, my favorite line is the Southern Pacific, and this museum is an SP fan's dreamland! Seeing the last surviving SP cab-forward 4-8-8-2 was a huge bucket list item for me. My father was an Army MP in WWII, and one of his posts was guarding the Donner Pass train tunnels outside Truckee, CA. He would talk about staying inside the tunnels due to the bitter cold and having his teeth darn near rattled out of his head by the massive steam locomotives. The cab-forwards were the prime movers for the supply trains through the Donner Pass tunnels. It is hard to picture just how huge those articulated steam locos are until you are standing next to it. (The UP Big Boy is only about 6' longer than the SP cab-forward. and I suspect that 6' is mostly cow catcher!)

Cool info, haven't been to Donner Pass but have stayed in Truckee and skied all over Tahoe, I love that area.
How about some train related tunes?
Any Rock Island fans should know this one.

I agree, David. I don't think it's possible, but wouldn't time travel to see old railroad history in action on a large scale be cool?

Yes it would John! Untill we'll just have to live with the steam excursion trains. I've rode the Cumbres &Toltec train twice and would do it every year if I could. Its grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!

It's on my bucket list, one day! I would also love to hit York, PA and Cass, WV plus a few others.

Just saw an article on trainz.com that the Canadian Pacific/Kansas City Southern deal still isn't done yet.
The UK seems to have kind of an odd system for worker strikes - they seem to be scheduled and announced weeks in advance by each of the unions? Leave it to the British to even have strikes in a formal, orderly way. I wonder if management serves the strikers tea & biscuits??

Every once in a while, the almighty youtube algorithm smiles down upon me. This is the greatest video I have ever seen. I sat through this with my mouth hanging open. Make sure you have your sound turned-up...
