All About Pocket Knives

Thanks TPK, was inspired by all these knives being shown the last few pages. Great browsing and surfing material. Thanks again.

Very recently, this pocket knife arrived and it now becomes the latest example to join this topic or thread and to join my general pocket knife collection. It came in a very large group or lot of pocket knives that I bought. I was happy to discover it, but I did not buy the group or lot for this particular pocket knife. It is a SHEFFIELD U.S.A., one blade, one tool, one tang stamp, 2 1/4" closed (not including the bail), fob style pocket knife. The inside of the curve in the tool is "ribbed" like the edge of a coin. The main blade front tang stamp says "SHEFFIELD (over) U.S.A.", SHEFFIELD is curved or arched. It is in VERY GOOD condition, but it did need a minor cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

Interesting knife. Never seen a secondary blade like that. Do you know what it's for? Looks kind of like a lobster knife except for that definitive curve in the blade. Nice score, good looker too.

I do not know what the tool or secondary blade was called or what it was used for.
I have seen this type of tool or blade before. Some kind of pick perhaps?

Skip, I have a couple "gent's" knives like that and always thought that was a nail pick and file, made that way to conform to the curve of the body ????? J.O'.

Here's an old HAYWARD (Empire) gent's knife with one of those "manicure" picks. J.O'.

Here is one I picked up that’s obscure to say the least. I have another that is just a little different but works the same. You need to slide the bolster up to have the pin which is in the handle move to come out of a hole that is in the other handle which allows you pull the handles apart to expose the blade. I show the patent abstract for it. These do t come up for sale that often at all!!

Very nice Steve on those,especially the bone salesman sample

J.O., Steve, great showing of a hard to find knife. I'll put the Carrier baby barlow here also. What is everyones opinion on Carrier, did they make their own knives or have them made by other companies? Not a lot out there on Carrier.
