All About Pocket Knives

Recently obtained from SMKW on closeout, a great bargain compared to other Case knives, this frame usually goes for double what I paid. It is a Case Carhartt Mid Folding Hunter, (4" closed). I've been wanting one of these, but the frame is relatively costy even in synthetic handles, so when I saw this version on sale I jumped at the opportunity. Though it has the Carhartt shield, it is the same frame as the "Case" shielded models. This one has Carhartt Brown G-10 handles in a fabric pattern echoing their clothing, and seems to be virtually indestructible. I also had been wanting a Case with a belt clip, so at a closeout price this was a no brainer to get as an EDC.
So far so good; typical Case quality in all respects. The only things I would change is move the thumb stud 1/8" forward to make it a tad easier to open one handed, and would make the belt clip a tad less tight, (it is very hard to pull out of my pocket when clipped on, but that may get better over time), other than that it is a joy to carry and fits my hand perfectly. I especially like the long clip blade on this one, the "Lazy Duck" bolsters aren't so bad either. It seems to find it's way into my back pocket most days recently, and I don't see that changing any time soon.

Cheap too, (for a Case). SMKW still has medium & large Stockman, a Trapper & Back Pocket of the same Carhartt series on sale for very reduced prices, (while supplies last of course; Mid Folding Hunter is already sold out). Good chance to snag yourself a Case frame at a substantial savings. I think a Medium Stockman will soon be joining this one. G-10 handles ta boot. Love a bargain that really IS a bargain!

Going back to "Ole Jack" today, hard to beat a mid-size jackknife. OH

Wish I coulda jumped on the 76 train. Closest I can get is Case medium Texas Jack.
But I been toting the Medium Stockman on the same frame.

Hard to beat the color in those bones Old H.

Got this combo today.

I've got this copperhead in my front pocket and the sodbuster in my back pocket.

At work today I went with Schrades :Dand a Griptillian lfp.

That's a suhlick knife there Bruce!!!!

Old H, noticed you called that 76 mid-sized. Curious what size is small, mid-size, or large? to me anything less than 3 inch is small, over 4 1/4 would be large, everything in between mid-size maybe? According to what size I like that is, to my size hands. What are the size designations?

Carrying the small, 3 inch 26 for couple days in a row.

I-Man, I am unsure if the exact dimensions which constitute a given size category have ever been definitively determined by the industry or by collectors. I have my own preferences - I prefer medium size pocketknives for EDC. I define medium as 3-3/8" to 3-7/8". From 3-1/4" down are the various penknives (small by my definition) and from 4" up are the Large size pocketknives. I think it also varies among patterns as to what is the size a knife fits into. I like lots of knives, but a Case 18 pattern, a Schrade 897UH, or that GEC 76 all fall right into a perfect size. OH

Scott, that is a nice looking Stockman, in a brand that is unknown to me - what is the OAL? OH
