All About Pocket Knives

Thanks Carl and Homer. I like that burl one too. Wooden handles are amongst my favorites and burl really trips my trigger.

I wish there was a like button rather than having to comment everytime I enjoy someone’s post. Regardless, I do enjoy the posts you all are sharing here, some great collections for sure.

While I have tapered off on collecting, I did have a relapse recently (yes it’s an addiction) and went on a Swiss Army knife binge as of late (and paracord which I usually never add lanyards but went a bit crazy here). I have a Handyman in white plus scales , an Alox Classic SD Precious collection in Red, and a signature lite in black onyx in the mail and that will be the extent of it. I carry the Ranger (Blue scales) the most.

Also, one trick I learned is to use shrink tube to protect the Fire Ant tinder from getting damaged. In this case I used 8mm clear non-adhesive shrink tube and so far works great and can hardly notice it’s there.

Included here are

Swiss Champ (Sapphire), Cybertool L (Ruby), Cybertool Lite (Silver Tech), Ranger (Blue), Explorer (Black), Huntsman (Yellow), Fieldmaster (Green), Spartan Lite (Emerald), Custom Yeoman based on SwissBianco limited edition (Black), Scientist (White), Compact (Red). Pioneer X (Stone Red), Alox 7 (Silver), Cadet (Silver), and Minichamp (Silver)

Nice collection of SAK’s Gus. That green one in the front in the second picture is a beauty. I like green and that looks like malachite green, one of my favorite greens. I use to carry a SAK but the weight of the knife was a problem in dress pants, which I wore 6 days a week to work. Still a favorite knife of mine. I use the scissors on a small one everyday, keep having to replace the springs over time. On my 3rd spring on these. Great knives.

Thanks, that’s the spartan lite I think you’re referring to in emerald translucent scale. That one and the silvertech Cybertool lite are the only two (excluding the alox models of course) that doesn’t have the plus scale (no pen).

Those little clips help with pocket carry a lot, even on some of the 4 and more layers. Although I think if I did carry one to work, I’d probably stick to the thinner 2 layer versions, maybe 3 at most.

As is usual when I collect I try and get a good variety of colors/scales. I really wish they made an original orange plus scale, I would put that on my explorer, I think. I didn’t really want to have two of the same color scale but will end up with two in white and three in black (again excluding the alox models). Wasn’t too keen on the camouflage versions. I think the translucent also came in like a chocolate and aqua versions but the pictures didn’t look that great and they’re impossible to find anyway.

I actually brought the Cybertool L with me to help a family member move a couch. Dang if it didn’t come in handy as I had to use the Philips driver to literally remove the couch from the metal frame to fit it up the stairs and into the apartment. Without it (they didn’t have a lot of tools) we would have been leaving the couch in the alley lol. It carried really well with the clip and a pair of shorts. Could easily get my hand past it to my car keys and it didn’t seem to weigh the shorts down. Still a chunky brick though.

I think what I like most is they’re relatively inexpensive and seem solid. Will be using these a lot hopefuly.

Nice Q, I like those tear drop jacks. I use to have about 20 of them. Put them in a separate display case all in a circle, looked nice. That Bermuda green ivy jigged is gorgeous.

Mahalo Mark, I'm about halfway there and I like the circular display idea...it's nice to have a goal but, dang, I sure wish I had started collecting these little T-drops before they got so pricey (true of most patterns, I suppose ). IIRC, I bought the Bermuda Green Ivy after seeing some (different pattern) knives with the same jigging that you posted on AAPK a number of years ago, so, yes, you may rightfully consider yourself an enabler

I so agree with your comment on the "like" button - this is the one and only forum in any hobby that I've participated in that doesn't have a like button. Wish it was part of the programming. Super nice grouping BTW

Mahalo, Garry Interestingly, most of the knives I've collected over the years have handles made of natural materials (ivory, stag, bone) without bright, vibrant colors. As you can see, I deviated from this trend with my 028 Teardrop collection. Still generally prefer natural materials and subdued colors, but I must admit I find looking at the colorful teardrops quite enjoyable

Wow!

I just love these little 3-3/8" Queen #9155 Mini Trappers. Some folks feel they're a bit on the small side for a working knife (like those who work on a "tree farm" or live at "starvation plantation" for example ). And while it's true they probably wouldn't be suitable for turning Bambi into venison steaks, they're solid, stout & sturdy and they have a bear trap snap (look closely, one of 'em even has an etch of a bear trap on the blade )
