Thanks JR! Most of my other scout knives are pretty much standard issue, nothing really wrong with 'em, but it is nice to have atleast a couple that stand out in the pack.

This was posted elsewhere and asked to be brought here . So ,,,,,here ya go ,,, i am kinda new so i may post thing where they dont belong , but anyways,,,,,here`s a Schrade PRESTO knife that i`ve been told was for the "handicapped cub" in the pac [ it makes sense ta me ] how cool is that !!! . made in the mid 40s is a bit over 4" closed and still has a faint etch . i like the jigging and color on this one ,it has a fairly Crisp "fan " like pattern down the middle thats muted alot on the PRESTOs fires strong and locksup tite.....put on yor specs and tilt your screen a bit , you`ll see the BSA logo and etch . Enjoy !

I have never seen one. .....I think the little box held the actual knife and its missing the top.

Johnnie, I found an 1981 Case Camper yesterday, model #640045R. In comparing it to the 640045R SS (mid 2000's mfg) I bought several weeks ago, I noticed that the cap lifter is much longer on the older version - a detail I thought you might have already noticed.

In comparing pictures (I'm away from home and only have the 1981 with me) I can see the spear blade on the newer knife is wider and it has two handle pins as well. This model knife was reported to have been a subcontracted knife - wonder if Camillus made one and Ulster made the other? When I get home I will compare them to others I own and see if I can identify which one is related to who.

Look in the blade well of the 1981 and see if there are 'prongs' punched in the liner that would poke out into the handle. The first thing that came to mind when you mentioned only one pin in the handle (rocker pin) was, "Hmmm. I don't recall seeing any Case knives without handle pins. I wonder if that knife has Delrin handles and was made by Camillus."

Since I don't know dandruff from dog doo doo about Case knives, please correct me if I'm wrong.

OH, I'm guessing that Camillus made the single pin knife and Case or Utica made the other. I'm like Jerry I don't know north from south about Case knives but thats my guess at the two knives.

These three knives are virtually identical, a Camillus ca. 1996, a Case mfg in 2006, and an Ulster from the 1970's or 1980's. All three have identical spear blades, leather punches, cap lifters, and can openers. All three have pinned Delrin handles - the only observable difference being the simulated jigging in the Delrin and the markings. The Camillus and Case branded knives are stainless, the Ulster is carbon. I am going to speculate that Camillus made all three of these Scout/camp knives.

The 1981 CV Case camp knife that is pictured several posts above has a different cap lifter (much longer), a hollowed out leather punch, a narrower profile on the spear blade and the Delrin extrusions inside the liner (as Jerry mentioned above). This knife may have been produced by Case, or by another maker for Case, but it is very different in several ways from the three knives shown above - damn this sure is fun! In the bottom picture you can see the hollowed out construction of the 1981 leather punch (right side) as compared to the flat design in the 2006 knife on the left. The Camillus, Ulster, and 2006 Case are all alike.

There was one of these posted in an article in ''The LONE SCOUT'' published by Frank Vacca in the June 1995 issue. It was purchased in Chicago in 1928 by its original owner. It still had the original box it came in. Printed on the box is: Offical Knife Boy Scouts of America.

OH...sorry I'm a bit late. ...your Scouts are all very nice and a great addition to anyones collection.
I think..not positive..that none of the 1980's & 90's Case Scouts were made in house.
I believe Camillus was one of their contractors.

Your 1981 Case Camper looks to have a pre 80's cap lifter...which is very possible.
