TRiver,

I have that same knife and sheath...no box or anything, and of course it is used. I actually found it while hiking way back in the mountains to a little know Trout Stream, heck....that was back in the mid seventies...lol

A few years back, before I knew about AAPK and the Schrade model lists I picked up a SW 291 because I didn't have a trapper in that model # and had never seen a SW with a brass shield. When I became acquainted with AAPK and saw the lists I figured I had a fake so I posted pictures and asked for opinions. The consensus was that it was real. Someone even produced a distributors sheet that had 291 hand written on it. A couple weeks ago I found the second one on Ebay listed as a 294. There wasn't much activity on it...figured eveyone was laying off until the end so I bid way high. Paid $15.55 for it ::ds::

I don't know much ,especially knives past WWII,but I would certainly give your money back. They go where they are supposed to,sometimes.

I sent Herman a couple pictures of them and he thinks that since I have 2 of them, I should get one re-handled in Schrade jigged bone.

I sure like that 895 red bone. I'm real fond of that pattern.
I got this Cut Co off Ebay. I haven't been able to find a match for it to get a model #. It's 3 1/4" All the chain knives I've found have 2 blades.

Regarding the 291 shown above: how does it differ from a 293 ? Looks the same to me.

The only difference that I can see is the brass shield. On the 1964 price list the 291 is penciled in at $24.00 a dozen while the 293 is listed at $21 a dozen. A brass shield hardly seems worth a 12.5% increase in price. I would guess that's why the 291 didn't stick around.
