Knife showed up today and it's a beaut, appears to be unused, always makes me wonder how an 80 year old knife can have little to no use.
The only difference from the catalog scan is the handle material sure seems to be ebony.

Received a Schrade Walden TL-29 as a gift this week, it has a Bartlett Manufacturing blade etch and fits in with 2 other Schrades I have with the same etch.

Goins' lists that company 1900 to 1920, but the bone on that farmer's knife dates to much closer to say... 1937 to 1941. So.... ::shrug:: Nice knives! ::tu::

I'm a fledgling Schrade collector so apologies if this Schrade Walden NY USA 804 doesn't belong here in the Old Schrade thread. It looks like the marking indicates 1952 to 1973 for an age range. I would have called this a Whittler pattern, but the research I found calls the 804 a Mechanics knife ::shrug::

Anyway its a nice knife and came with what I believe are the original packaging materials and it might have been ordered directly from Schrade.

I think your knife would be welcome in any Schrade thread.
Top knife and love the packaging material .It's all history( if the handles are bone made before 1959-60 )

Jerry that's an amazing 804, and all the more incredible with all that ephemera!! How do you find those things!

It's possible that the knife was sent in for some kind of repair, and the use and care paperwork was sent back as a little reminder to take care of the knife. I'm not kidding, I seem to recall seeing an invoice with a reference to such things.

Jerry, found it! I knew I had it somewhere lol! BTW I think your knife dates somewhere in the 1950's, although it looks like it was made yesterday, incredible.

What a great 804...full sabre grind clip, good etch and peach seed jig bone handles...it just doesn't get any better than that. For a fledging Schrade collector, you sure hit a homerun with that knife. ::tu::

Excellent ephemera there; I will pop this into my info database. Which Schrade is that signature? I can't quite make it out.
Meanwhile the 804 whittler is absolutely primo, top gun, number one, a perfect ten, etc. ::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu:: Congratulations!

Eric, I believe you. In fact, after I read your comment I remembered that esteemed AAPK member Ray Paladin from whom I purchased the knife told me that he believed the box was from a repair.

Met the mailman today at my mailbox. Dirty, but otherwise mint, never sharpened, never 'cleaned.'

He's right - the wood looks new! And speaking of wood handled 2OTs........

I found one myself last night! I spotted a wood handled, arched stamp 2201 - at least that's what I'm calling it. When I receive it I'll post some better pictures. I thought it was walnut but I have no idea if Schrade ever used that. I know they used Cocobola which is a "1" in the fourth spot, so here's the ebay pic of my soon to be 2201:

Could use a little clean up...

I think maybe late teens. The tang stamps are straight line and the cap stamps are arched. Michael Little reminded me that Schrade never threw anything away so maybe this was made right when the tang stamp switch was happening?

Cal and Jason, fantastic finds for both of you! I've seen maybe three of the arch stamped cap knives in the last fifteen years, definitely a rarity!

Thanks Eric. I've seen pictures of two others, both here on AAPK - and I'm pretty sure one was Cal's? I got the knife today and it's actually in really good shape. It's just covered in 100 years of gunk - I cleaned a bit off to take a picture. This will take some time to finish. Can you tell from the pic if it is cocobolo?
