All About Pocket Knives

Thanks cudgee! Than one is as close to pristine as any T-ville Schatt that I've ever seen!
Week or so back Lloyd/Duffer posted his Beautiful Lockback and Advertising S&M's, and it got me to thinkin........
One of the things that was so to me was that Queen bought Schatt and Morgan lock, stock and barrel. So that when, under Bill Howard's hand, Queen decided to make the Annual Reproduction or Keystone Series and then the File and Wire Series, they were making these old S&M patterns with the same old original machinery, set-ups, tooling and work benches. Making the same exact pocket cutlery, in the same exact way, at the same exact work stations as they were made dang near a 100 yrs ago. Still basically made by hand by skilled cutlers. I really hated to see Queen go down so much American cutlery history.
Anyway....... that was the long way around the barn for this comparison of the Original and the F&W Lockbacks.
I expect everyone reading this knows it's a big knife @ 5 1/2" and the lock release is positioned way closer to the pivot than most lockbacks.
Just the bottom bolster and subtle differences between the two. The rat tail size and where the cut swedge stops. The pull placement and length, pin locations, thickness of the blade and spring are exactly the same.

Ditto that...a very sad day indeed. Although, unfortunately, the quality under the DFC stamped S&Ms took a nose dive compared to the Keystone and File & Wire series. At best it was was so hit-or-miss you never knew exactly what you were getting unless you could hold and examine the knife in person before purchasing.

In contrast, the Tuna Valley brand, which is owned by the Daniels family, produces top-notch, semi-custom quality knives. I don't understand why they couldn't have kept Queen alive by employing the same strategy.

Another good sized single blade @ 4 1/8" closed. Fancy "rope" designed bolster with bomb shield. Very nice jigged bone that unfortunately has a chip and crack on the pile side @ the spring pivot pin.

That is a big beauty, Dave! Interesting matchstriker pull. Doesn't appear to be much space between the top of the teeth and the top of the pull?

Thank You edge213 and danno! The pull does look that way in the photo Dan but there is room enough for your nail but this thing is a bear to open and snaps like an old turtle!!
Another single saber blade from David Clark's collection. At 4 1/2" closed, this one sports a hounds tooth shield and more of a pick bone jig but a little deeper than regular pick bone..... if that makes any sense

That one has a lot going for it, bone, bolster, shield and a sabre ground blade!

Thank You edge213 and danno! I didn't think about that knife having a copperhead bolster Dan! It makes for a sunk joint which helps out on pocket wear with it being a somewhat larger pocketknife.

A little @ 3" closed split backspring with tapered wedge sheepsfoot whittler. Some nice jigged bone and rat tailed bolsters!

Love, LOVE, love that one. Thanks for showing all these. I didn't realize what a fan I was of old S&M until you started posting. Now I'm a lover of them, browse the ones I see, and look for others. You're like an S&M museum. Hats off to you for your collection of them and showing them and the photography, and for getting me interested in the brand. Keep them coming, loved checking out every one you've posted. And don't worry about posting twice like that Boy Scout. It's out pleasure. Wow, what a Boy Scout knife.

I know you posted this knife back on Page 6, but any info on the copper bail? I have a Keen Kutter with a copper bail and the same kind of opener, I think it might have been made for the Canadian military/navy.
