Very cool display Keith. Never seen one before but hard for me to think it was an ammo display.

Thanks Wayne, the bullet knives fit ber well in it. I'm thinking that might have been it's purpose ::shrug::

Keith, that large square bolster pearl stockman looks like a beauty. I’ve been looking for one of those for a while. Great find on your part. John

Here are a couple of knife picks. I don't know a whole lot about them but I believe the original ones had stamping on both sides and I've never see a Remington Dupont besides this one???

So this is what I think I know which might be different than what is truly known.

Your knife roll is from the 1930’s. It was designed to carry salesman samples. Most of the rolls were made of heavy canvas backs with leather straps and handle. The inside were lined with tarnish proof green plush. Each roll would bear the Remington trademark and numbers stamped in gold.

Each salesman sample would be identified as follows:

R-H. Sheath knives
J. Jacks
J H. Folding knives and hunting knives
J P. Jacks and pens
P. Pens
B. Butcher knives
S. Shears
T. Tableware
FP or FJ. Folds for jacks or pens these were imitation leather covers green plush lined with snap fasteners.

Then you had assortment rolls numbered 1, 2, 3 that were green flanneled lined and varied to hold 12, 24, or 36 knives.

Now your knife salesman roll R-T-30
Should be salesman sample for Remington Tableware for 30 items.
Hope this helps... and what a prize you have! very nice item.

Remington was very organized once you get into their ordering and reordering number system for the “jobber” salesman. ::tu::

Just stating the obvious for the novice onlooker...
In Remington’s hay days Remington produced knives for practical use in home, office or in the field for the tradesmen or hunter. The “sundries” varied but were for one purpose... sell...sell...sell! The roll cases and such were really for store displays to sell the product or salesman rolls to display and sell the product or in various assortments boxes or displays to sell the product. We use and think of them for storage of our collections today. JMHO ::tu::

Bought a Remington Cutlery Headquarters neon sign a few weeks ago from an auction in Wisconsin. During shipping Fed Ex did their thing and broke the neon so I had to get the neon fixed.I found Neon Works in Cincinnati, which is attached to the American Sign Museum. They did an excellent and quick job of the repair.
