Today the postman delivered a new addition to my pile that fits in this thread. Wife and sons surprised me with this one for my birthday. A Case Tested PB91050 big coke bottle push button slider has been on my "Grail" list, so guess I can check this one off the list now. But they went one better as this one is a PB91050F (fish scaler blade), in near mint condition to boot! Big ol' honkin handfull of knife! I've never seen another one with the fish scaler blade aside from the listing in Sargent's.

Awesome knife, that may be the exact knife shown in Sargent's book. I'm sure there aren't many floating around in that condition.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, and the compliments on the knife. I'm blessed with a great family. As you might imagine there was some trickery involved in them getting me to tell them what knives I have wanted but don't have. My wife thinks all knives look alike (which has definite advantages! ) so my oldest son and grandchildren were put to the task. Thanks to Sargent's, Holbrook, and AAPK for an assist in showing them some of my Grail knives. I would never have spent what they did for the knife so that's another thing that makes it special.

Just to correct the record for any future researchers on AAPK, I've learned what I believe to be the correct pattern number for the knife is PBB1050F. The number I posted previously is apparently a typo error in Sargent's 7th edition. Although the "9" would seem somewhat logical due to the handles being similar to "cracked ice" (an old Case catalog reprint calls it imitation onyx), I've since found the knife listed in the Case catalog reprint, Ferguson's Pictorial Guide to Romance of Knife Collecting (1972 edition) and Sargent's 3rd edition, as PBB1050. If anyone has information to the contrary please advise.

This 8369 is probably the rarest knife in my collection, courtesy of my Dad and his impeccable taste. It might be the only known example. Of course, I'm still looking for another one.

Here are a few that aren't too common. The shields on the bottom two are the old raised letter shield, the 64055 has a very unusual shield for a Case knife, I think it's a contract made knife, maybe Utica?

Edit. Actually the bottom knife is a 6246, I titled the photo from memory, goes to show the old saying, "A short pencil is better than a long memory" is true.

Is there any sort of reference where a can find out just how rare a knife isas far as production numbers. I realize it would be difficult to determine how many are left out there but if you knew how many were made to begin with you could limit your searches to the lowest produced styles.

Give me the knife and the era or year , model number, etc. It depends on what you're talking about. case didn't keep very good records. But I do have some old era like tested and they give you some idea but not sure but need a little bit more information

Well that's what I'm talking about. I would like to know which knives are the rarest so I know what to keep an eye out for.

here are a couple of my OLD CASE beauties!!
mint(not cleaned) and unused!!

These are the two I consider the rarest of my Case knives:
The first is a Tested XX letter opener with folding blade and coffin shaped handle.Have never found a pattern number for this one.
Second is a V-42 Stiletto I bought off e-Bay a couple years ago along with two other knives.It was advertised as a letter opener and had an ugly plastic handle installed. I removed it and put my own ugly plastic handle on until I can properly repair it with leather.
Best part were the prices:the letter opener was $15 and the V-42(along with the two other knives)cost $55 with shipping.

I know where 3 are currently. Likely not for sale but who knows as money talks and these will dent the pocket book or it least it did mine. Considered by most to be ultra rare. Likely one of the rarest besides a couple of other prototypes one will likely never see and some don't even know exist. A more modern version of rare at 46 years old.

Not aware of any source for Case actual production numbers. Rarity is pretty much what this entire thread is about. The knives you see on this thread are some of the rarest. There are others, but if you find one of those posted here and they are honest (not counterfeit) you will have a rare one.
