Added this old Queen Cutlery counter hone to my accumulation of cutlery company counter hones. This one doesn't have an oil can with it like the Case counter hones, and in fact it says never use oil or water on it. I'm guessing it's from the mid to late 70s or later (based on the Servotronics reference on the label - Servotronics bought Queen Cutlery in mid-70s) but if anyone knows anything about it please advise.

Picked this up at a garage sale today. My friend says when he was a kid there were a few relatives that had them in their kitchens.

Anyone know anything about them? Bought it because I thought it was kinda unique. It's in good condition. Don't think I would use it on any of my knives though.

Scott, that looks like a black hard Arkansas .......... that got dropped.
Those scratches wont bother anything. It will polish a refined edge.

Here are three small stones that were in my Dad's tackle box. I do not know anything about them, and had long ago forgot they were there until I opened the box recently. Probably first time it had been opened in twenty years. It made me stop and think about how our sharpening stones are some of the most long lasting objects we own. Steel rusts, gold and silver get melted down, ceramics break, wood rots. A sharpening stone can be worn down of course. But I could drop one in the woods or back yard, and in a thousand years it would still be there, just like a stone arrowhead.

Cool stones Mel. I believe those are called slip stones. Orvet has a collection of tackle box stones - he's the expert!

That ol' Devilhorse lure is pretty neat, too! Caught a few bass and jackfish (Chain Pickerel) on 'em over the years . That was also one of my Dad's favorite lures.

And that is an old one too, with the screw in hook harness. You're fortunate to have your dads stuff.

I have a couple of those devil horse lures. Those lures always had good color. Here's a stone a picked up just a few days ago. Caught my attention because of the cast iron stand. Wonder how old this is?

That is an unusual one, kazz. Bet you don't have to hold it down to use it!

No sir. It's got some heft to it. Lot of cast iron there and a thick stone.

I like that Carborundum stone, Kazz! Very cool cast iron holder. I do not know how old it is, but something about it makes me think 1920s or 1930s.

Man that's a cool old stone and holder. Very nice.

So, this is what I've used recently to sharpen a couple knives and they've done a magical job.

Now, question is......what are these 2 stones?

The bigger one has been glued together and is very smooth......if it weren't so thick it may be translucent.
The other has a fine grit feel to it.....almost smooth, but not quite.

Any help would be appreciated!!

In what way was the larger stone glued? Can't tell from the picture.
It looks like it could be a White Hard Arkansas. Nice and thick. At least an inch, right?
The other one looks to be a very desirable Carborundum stone.

Scott, the stone in this post; I'm rethinking, could this stone be a Belgian?
"Scratched" as in soft like a Belgian water stone?
