All About Pocket Knives

I don't know who made it or where, but I can guarantee that it is a 100% German pattern, also seen by Scandanavian and English makers occasionally. I think the prospect of U.S. manufacture is iffy. In larger sizes it might be table carving cutlery, but the small ones were usually used as side knives.

The Argintine Gauchos are also very similar. Looks like stag or some other antler handle to me.

After further clean up and inspection I found a mark on the middle of the blade. The mark is four letters A W J and i think an S? Under the letters is a full suit of armor w helmet holding a sword pointed down by it's side. I have searched the letters and have found nothing? The knife 9.5 inches overall/5 inch blade.

It is made by Anton Wingen Jr. Solingen Germany

Thx Miller Bro's. I had just found that out and was returning red faced to say that it is NOT american. It is German. It is intended as a a hunting knife the best I can tell. However, I have not been able to find the exact same knife or anything even similar to it. Dating it may prove harder than figuring out the maker.

It is a hunting knife, it is called a Jagdnicker or Weidmesser.

Lot`s of German soldiers bought these as a backup boot knife.

I have several of them, they are not scarce by any means. As far as dating it, there is no exact way to pin it down, from experience I would say it was made after WWII and most likely it is from the 1950`s-60`s

Remington RH-38. This old soldier has seen some campaigns. Factory filework on spine on the RH-38 and the ultra-rare RH-40. Manufactured 1926-1930. Someone offered to sell me an original sheath, and I said ok, and he disappeared. Too bad. I really like this knife. If I had a better one to go with it I would use this one (you know, pick my teeth, etc.).

Toungeriver that's a fine looking old Remington. How long is it? It looks huge.

Phil, it is "about" 12 1/2 inches long. The blade is 7 7/8 inches.

Thanks Gino, I picked up another 523-5 usa today at my local flea markt., but it's not as good condition as these.

Tim, I try to pick up any as long as they are not really beat. I am a folder guy at heart but I also love fixed blades. I think I am liking them more as I get older. Any pics of the one you found today?

Here ya go Gino, I've also included a pic of a custom made that I found a while back. It appears to be a factory blade, but I really like the way it feels in my hand. The brass gaurd(if you can call it that) has the letters "JRL" on one side and "WV"(West Virginia) on the other. I have no idea who made it. Thanks, Tim

One of these is a pal,the three with stag handles are craftsman ( big one ) one has a cammillus blade and the other I'm not sure about. The reason I know the one with the blood groove is a callimus is because he'd used the guard on another knife and I realised
what it was. In the other picture is a couple of cases, 2 remington,a bear and sons bowie,hand made one,a buck 119. Hope you like.

Yes the fixed blades are my favorites, I like the big ones but the smaller ones 6 inches and under ( blade length ) are more useable.
Still ever one needs a bowie knife or 2.
