I posted somewhere that I bought a RR small congress from a roadside vendor friend(should of just gave him $10).
Carried it for 2 or 3 months ,backspring broke.
I agree with almost all the negative commentary.

I will still carry a RR from time to time. At least if it DOES break, I won't be out much.
I'd rather find old knives cheap however.....

Saying you don't want to buy Chinese knives is all fine and well, that is a choice you are free to make. However saying you won't buy a knife made in China because the quality sucks you are sadly mistaken. Yes there are some cheap knives imported from China just as the is junk made here in the US. However there are also some very high quality knives coming from China. How can you tell the difference? Just look at the price.
These are from AG Russel and made in China and quality wise they are better than the last dozen Case knives I have bought.

I figured he's selling the tank stock from the Korean war and drop hammers from the factory. Along with the leg shackles for the employees.

I think he has a sticky keyboard. His "see other items" has "footpegs" listed about every other listing. No prices no description no nothing. . . All for $300 and all posted at exactly the same minute.
Or, maybe he forgot to put a decimal just after the "3" for the RR!

I just gave my grandson his first pocketknife, a Case of course, and he loves it and would sleep with it if his dad would let him. One day he is going to ask me this same question; where is the difference between them? Let's say we have on a table in front of us a Case peanut with red bone handles,---and beside it a Rough Rider with red bone handles. Now, can we go down the list?
- Bolsters - nickel silver.
- Liners - brass.
- Handles - bovine bone.
- Blade steel - polished 440 stainless
- Pins - brass.
- Shield - nickel silver.
- Fit & finish - ?
- Appearance - ?
Where is the 71$ difference?
You are paying the $71 for the letters, USA. Frankly, some of the Cases I have purchased of late do not have the quality fit and finish the Chinese knives have.
I've got a Buck 119, made in the USA. Nice leather sheath. It is NIB condition. I use a Buck skinner made in China as my primary hunting knife, picked it up at SMKW three or four years ago for less than $15. I have skinned a lot of deer with it, the knife sharpens easily, and keeps a good edge. If I lose the Buck skinner or break a blade somehow I'm out less than $15. If I sharpen my Buck 119 and carry it the collector value will go down long term.
I've got a Case XX with broken handles, less than pristine blades in a drawer. My wife bought the knife for me when we were first married nearly 30 years ago. If I hadn't carried it and kept the box its value would easily top $100 now.
I use Chinese knives, I abuse Chinese knives; keep my USA made knives in their boxes. Money in the bank.

Sort of what he said ^ except I do carry my USA Case knives and even older USA stuff as well as my Chinese stuff.
This thing is fun to play with and QUITE sharp. China to the bone...
