All About Pocket Knives

Got a knife a couple of weeks ago that is a good enough reason to bump up the thread again....

”Salesman Sample” with "0751F" etched on the back of blade with a nail file at the other end.
2¾" closed with peach seed bone & nickel silver tip bolsters. Any idea as to how old this gem may be?

Walden closed in 1923, that's as close as I can come. I'd guess late teens on up by the jigging.(?)

Here is a Walden Congress I got awhile back. I don't believe I ever posted a photo of it. It is 3.25 inches closed with rat tail bolsters.. Blades all have nice action and the jigged bone handles are nice with no cracks.

Lovely knife, Lloyd, with blade etch to boot! Very closely matches the Keen Kutter 4328, found on page 212 of Sellens.

I'm gonna hafta start lookin' around for some of those blade etch oldies....
it certainly does add character to an already awesome knife!

That is a fine Congress you have there, Lloyd. Beautiful in every way.
With the 3 1/4" length it seems to favor the 4527.

It most certainly is more like the 4527, I was remiss in not comparing lengths. Also, the bolsters are similar on the 4527 to the OP knife.

Here's another little Congress.... not nearly as nice as Lloyd's.... it has its issues.... but with nice Mother of Pearl covers....
which is why I picked it up as its my one & only MoP!

Wow - That's a beauty Tony ... Those handles are in awesome condition as are the blades for a knife with a good amount of age - quite honestly I like a nice old pen knife just as much & sometimes more (like your example) than the big ol' jacks ..

Thank you. I did not drool when it was pulled from the showcase, but I was doing the happy dance inside when the blades revealed their stamp. Could not pay for it quickly enough.

This one disappears in the pocket. So much so, that I will probably not carry it. Would hate for it to disappear forever. As for the condition, it has not been carried or used much, If at all.
I hope that I look as good at that age.

Tony - Just an aside - I don’t carry any of my knives in my collection which are all old along the same lines as your Walden and even older .... I feel more like a curator of my old knives to preserve for the future - sorry if it came across that you should carry that knife - I wouldn’t - I only meant in my collecting I like old pen knives as much and sometimes more than big knives - in truth many of the small knives took more skill to make by the cutlers and were even more expensive long ago ( As an aside my only EDCs are new knives and even there I only have a few which fill my needs... they are GECs - a few #14 boys knives - and a Benchmade Osborne that my brother sent me... those basically do everything I need a knife for a knife in my pocket....)...

I have to admit... when I carry an old knife (mostly during the weekend)... its more to show off than to use.
... and the typical use they get is to open the mail or cut a hanging thread and the like...

WelderBob - That is a sweet looking slim trapper and nice addition - (Sorry I missed it somehow when I replied below Tony - thanks for posting it!!!)
