Thanks for the critique of the Artisan. I'll have to get my hands on one. There are so many new imports popping up. I've always avoided buying Chinese products for political reasons and because most of what I saw was was cheesy junk. Times have changed, I'm still politically adverse to supporting China but one can't deny that they have stepped up and started exporting some high quality knives. So I guess you could say that my aversion to Chinese cutlery has been reduced by 50%. The QSP I acquired recently is a prime example, I wasn't happy about the Chinese origin but I was highly impressed with the quality and now it is solidly in my EDC rotation. Spain, Germany, El Salvador, Taiwan, and Italy among others are hitting the market with some fine knives so my collection which was about 90% USA and German is now becoming truly international.

As a post script to this conversation, there are some new (at least I hadn't heard of them until recently) American cutlers hitting the market with high end (and high priced) knives. Bradford, White River K & T, Smith & Sons, and Medford K & T to name a few. I'm still wishing for an American cutler or two to step into the gap left by Camillus, Schrade, and Queen and offer good quality EDCs at working man prices. I don't know about you but if I pay 2 or 3 hundred dollars for a pocket knife I find myself leery of putting it to hard use.

Amen, with you again. Used to could get GECs all day long for $60-70-90. I see now we were living the dream and didn't even know it. I definitely think a good cutler could make knives that sell for $100ish and make it in this market. Just make a good knife and you can get GEC prices if it's worth it. And I think Queen would still be in the market if their quality had not fallen off the cliff. I was paying over a hundred for theirs until the quality dove so low I started asking for refunds. IF that quality had stayed up or improved like GEC, I would still be buying them. If Schrade made a good knife here, I would be buying. I see Case, GEC, and Buck seem to have no problem selling knives. Apparently people think they are worth what they are charging. Those three at least prove there is market share to be had. Hey, people will pay Chrise Reeves and William Henry prices IF the knife is up to snuff for that price level. Obviously people will pay for appropriate quality knives.

Well Charlie that is fine knife, just getting back to USA time feel…LOL I have a beautiful pile of knives that arrived just yesterday from Roland, I think 22 of them. But I’m trying to get all things back to normal like mowing, yard maintenance, truck washed, and I got behind on my domestic beer consumption, but I will be taking a few pics and posting them later today. Roland has some fine cutlery that I was able to buy from him. What a quality man he is, we all should tap into his knowledge whenever possible.

You are so welcome, as I looked at them you can’t help but think of being in battle with them and as I looked I said what would I use? I think the battle mace would do the as much damage as any, so I would take it a a small dagger.

I think I'd grab that Scimitar in the fourth pic. Couple that with a stout buckler and you're ready for medieval warfare.

For medieval battle, I'd go with something that has reach yet durable, and something smaller for up close and personal, keeping weight in mind. Can't imagine swinging a broadsword for hours and living through it.

Green Alox!!!!! OUTSTANDING!

Snagged one of these Victorinox Bantam Alox for the next scout/teen who needs a b-day present or whatever. I like to have a few around that the wife can give away too, sometimes she decides to use one as a gift for whatever person. This was twenty two smackers shipped, has nice half stop on the cap lifter, none on the spear. But this is probably the thinnest knife I've ever owned. For the money I''m very pleased with it over all. And I like any SAK that isn't red. Nothing wrong with red either, just enough already for me. Had red SAKs for fifty some years, think I would like to try another color. I really like the darker metalic green in this stuff too. So light, gotta be aluminum scales or something. Decent knife. I would get more to use as gifts.

Can't go wrong with SAK Iman. Bang for the buck they are one of the best. Great camp/utility knife for any youth (who will probably still like it as an adult).

I believe the light weight is due to the scales also serving as liners. My dark green Bantams should arrive by week's end.
