I missed that one. It has an earlier pattern handles and has the badge type shield without Schrade printed on it. May have been a 1950's knife. Someone got a good deal on it.

I say it was made before 1959-60.It was made before the Swinden System (pins through bolsters )It would have had peach bone handles.

Yep, I agree. I figured early to mid 50's. I don't know how accurate the drawings were in some of the Schrade Walden Catalogs, but by '58 they were showing the longer shield on the 863 pattern.

I received eceived these two in the mail today to add to my Camillus 72 Clone Family.
First a McGrew Arkansas Hillbilly Classic Carpenters Whittler made by Camillus, with the Underlined McGrew Arkansas USA tang stamp. It has Delrin Handles with the underlined "M" federal style shield. All blades have great snap, still have the original luster, no wobble, but do have some age spots and some scratches. The master clip blade still has the "Hillbilly Classic" blade etch, but it is light. Blades are smooth, but I may still do the warm mineral oil soak, and flush with WD40 to see if anything comes out. Plus that also seems to clean up and refreshes the delrin finish. The only thing I've done is oil the joints, and wipe it down. Here are the photos.

Next, I picked up another Craftsman 9494 which Sears listed as a 3 blade whittler. This one has the oval Craftsman stamped shield with the stamped Crown surrounding the word "CRAFTSMAN". I believe these were produced by Ulster for sears, going by the design of the nail nick, swedge and choil. The blades are tight with no wobble, but do have spots and scratches. They have good snap, but are not smooth. The blade wells need cleaning and are dirty. So there may be some grit inside. So I am definitly going to do the warm oil soak and flush a couple of times and do a little cleaning. It was a cheapie but should make a solid knife. Here are the photos.
