Great knives posted in here ! i try to add into the thread when I find knives that I consider "Rare" ( I don't use that word lightly), seems this one fits the topic. Made cir. mid 1800 + or ~ by Bunting cast steel in Sheffield England.....Old, Rare and fully functional Automatic

Nice Knife. In the ad it says they also made "Sneck" knives, What are they? Thanks

A latch or catch (called sneck in Northern England and Scotland) is a type of mechanical fastener that joins two (or more) objects or surfaces while allowing for their regular separation. A latch typically engages another piece of hardware on the other mounting surface. Depending upon the type and design of the latch, this engaged bit of hardware may be known as a keeper or strike.
A latch is not the same as the locking mechanism of a door or window, although often they are found together in the same product.

So is “ Sneck” knife the original word describing what we now call a “ switchblade “ ?

R. Bunting Sheffield 7 inch folding dirk 1830-1850 the best I can determine with horn handles, pretty good condition for it’s age, thanks for looking

The only picture I have seen of this pattern is in Sargents 2nd edition on page 91. Both are Cattaraugus and back then the Case Bros and Cattaraugus worked together.

I’ve had these for a couple years don’t remember posting them before. Both are 4 inches. The lockback is Mackie Edinburgh, the ebony is Dobie Glasgow and on the reverse side is Klasscut. Don’t have any information other than that, 1800s era imagine, thanks for looking and for comments or information .
