Funny story...When the listing first appeared, the seller had a BIN price ($125) or the option to bid. I already have two other identical knives for which I paid pretty close to that BIN price for each. The Monkey probably would have simply bought it for the BIN price had not another person beat me to the punch and placed a bid, thus eliminating the BIN option. So, I just set a Gixen bid for $125 and ended up winning it for $76.00. Naturally, I was pretty pleased with the outcome...saved $49.00 off the amount I was willing to pay. ::groove::

When it arrived, however, I was dismayed to discover that it had a few issues that the seller failed to disclose. First thing I noticed was that the spay blade is as dull as a butter knife....shows no indication it was ever sharpened at all...no edge whatsoever, factory or otherwise...basically it's like the spatula blade on a Dr. knife only in the shape of a spay. Very strange since the spay blades on my other two both have razor sharp edges. :?

The next issue is a proud master blade. Not a deal-breaker for me since I'm never going to carry it anyway, but still, it's the sort of thing that tends to bug OCD Monkey--like the single thorn on the stem of an otherwise beautiful rose. ::disgust::

(Yes, I know this issue could be fixed; but, remember that lazy, unmotivated feeling I had about the origin of the Cozy Glen tang stamp, so... ::tired:: )

Unlike the dull spay blade and the "thorn" of the proud master blade (both of which can actually be felt more than seen), I didn't even notice the third strike against this knife until I happened to see it in one of my photos. Once seen, however, it is glaringly obvious (and of course OCD Monkey makes sure to point it out every time I look at the knife). :x
P4140028.JPG

I still like the knife, but I'm glad I didn't pay "full price" for it. Were it not for that perceived "savings" I can't help but think that The Monkey would probably insist on returning it. But, as the saying goes, "two out of three ain't bad."

Yes Q! I know that exact feeling! I truely do! ::nod:: It still happens to me quite often. ::nod:: In fact, there is a knife that has been on my wish list for at least 1 1/2 years and I have found about 12-15 of them but they always sell for more than I have. :| Whenever I do finally score one, of them it will be "giddy" X 3. ::nod:: I have my eye on one of them right now so I'm like... ::fc:: ::fc:: ::fc:: ::pace::

As to the flaws on your newest addition. ::hmm:: They + the price it came for, do give you the perfect excuses to make it an EDC. You can fix the blade issues and just overlook the cosmetic issue and slip it in your pocket knowing you have two more of them at home! ::nod:: ::tu:: IMO it is still a beautiful knife! ::super_happy:: I especially like the Acorn shield & the "Queen City"! Outstanding! ::nod:: ::handshake::

Sorry to hear that about the cracks, but doesn't surprise me. I've come to live by the maxim that knife sellers are like used car salesmen. They will sell you a lemon and say it's a peach. When selling want top dollar like it's flawless, when buying want lowball price and point out same issues to get it for less. They will try to hide issues with camera angle and fuzzy pics and even view points that don't show it, or they just lie about it and say it isn't there when you can see it. All to sell for top dollar. Classic.

MAHALO jmh58, jerryd, TPK, Lansky1, Ivoryman & luckydog64...it's always fun to know that fellow knife collectors appreciate my knives. ::nod:: (Although you should be aware that your positive comments also encourage The Monkey to justify his reckless, wanton, impetuous, impulsive and financially irresponsible knife-buying behavior. So...yeah...thanks for that as well. :D )

Well, today is Saturday which, according to some accounts, is actually the sixth day of the week (Sunday being the seventh, the day the Creator rested, etc.) I mention this seemingly unrelated bit of numerical/Biblical trivia simply in order to help you understand just how satisfying it was for OCD Monkey to add number six (6) of my all-time, number one, favorite Mini-T pattern to my collection today. Is it coincidence, serendipity, random happenstance, divine intervention, or... ::hmm:: I'll let you decide that for yourselves. As for me and The Monkey, we're just happy to add another #51 (especially this particular model) to Mini-T Mountain.

The preponderance of evidence would strongly suggest that, yes, that is in fact the ultimate goal. ::nod::

(Hey, The Monkey's just trying to keep up with Skip's OCC 6207 accumulation!) ::uc::

Man Q, knocking out of the park. Great looking bones and pristine looking blades and everything. Congrats on another beauty. Have you got a S&M source or get them trolling the bay? I bid on the bay for a couple Case 1975 Mini Ts and was left choking on the clouds of dust from the pack of deep pocketed bidders that stampeded past me. One went for over two hundred, the other one fifty six. I thought they would go for about $125-35. You make them look so good, might have to check S&M out on the 51s. Great group and photos. Great thread.

Yes, in spite of his denial and all evidence to the contrary, I suspect Skip may be trying corner the 72 market as well. I don't keep a running tally on other peoples' knives (except for their Mini Trappers, of course) so I have no way to know for sure and could be mistaken; but, based on what I've observed, I think he may still have a ways to go to catch up to jerryd, Floyd and Smitty in the 72 department (although we all know it's not a race or competition). I thought I had it bad with just two OCD Monkeys on my back (Mini-T Monkey and Wharncliffe Monkey); but, apparently, Skip is a man with so many interests (i.e., obsessions), the poor guy must have an entire troop of OCD Monkeys riding on his back. ::uc::

Here are MY totals:
CASE 6207's - 15
CAMILLUS 72's - 37
CAMILLUS 72 Variations, Clones, Wannabe types, etc. - 120

These amounts could hardly be considered, cornering the market.

I'm not ashamed to admit it: I will buy every 1991 S&M 042151 I possibly can...if that constitutes an attempt to corner the market then so be it. When it comes to that particular knife, The Monkey's greed and desire knows no bounds, restraints, restrictions or limitations (not to mention discipline or self-control).

Here's another S&M 042151 I picked up recently: Premier model from 2002 with the New York tang stamp.

S&M 042 151 Series I Mini-Trapper - Labeled.JPG
It's Camillus 14's that I have trouble laying off of. They're great little knives and for the most part, inexpensive. ::facepalm::

My first one. Got it in 2013 for $12.27.

Number 16 that I got in 2020 for $6.10 plus shipping $3.95
Camillus 14 ~ Early 70's - Indian Stag Delrin Handles - Labeled.JPG
I've given a few away but still hang on to the majority.
There's plenty more out there but I'm a bottom feeder and I make a concerted effort to stay away from them, otherwise there wouldn't be any room left here.
