Johnnie, that Craftsman has a mighty long bottle opener and a curved surface on the awl - looks like an Imperial to me. Nice knife - who ever made it!

They definitely had more than one company making them....the one on the left,I pulled off ebay..the right is mine.
You can see they were made by different companies...caplifter & punch are not the same.

Phil, I think you just said a mouth full. I received this old Ulster Scout knife in the last POS Round-table and I can't stop playing with it. The Phillips screwdriver is missing from it's mounting blade and the main blade is as loosey goosey as any I've ever seen. In the closed position, the main blade flops around all over the place, front to rear, side to side and up and down (see attached movie). Without taking it apart, I can't tell if the pin hole in the blade is worn out or maybe the pin itself is worn down. All other blades snap like a junk yard dog. The scales are Delrin and look really good except for one small crack that isn't overly obvious.

There's something about this knife that just fascinates the bejesus out of me. Even though the main blade is so loose it seems like it's about to fall out of the knife, it still has snap in a rubber band kind of way and I'm always picking the knife up and playing with it. I keep thinking I'll come up with a way to save it without breaking the bank. (weld a new screwdriver back on the blade and replace the main blade????) What's wrong with me? It's an Ulster for crying out loud. They're a dime a dozen, cheap to buy and I already have one that's in good condition, so why bother?

I have been looking for one of these for a long time. Finally found one

The thing about this is the original Ad which describes the knife and tells you how to go about obtaining one of these. The knives were offered by Topps chewing gum, 10,000 knives to be given away.

Only .01¢ bought you 2 pieces of gum, you needed to send in 100 wrappers to get the knife, that means the knife would cost you a whopping .50¢

Not even any mention of postage cost.

The Ad states the offer ends December 15, 1949.

Wow!!!! That brings back some awesome memories as a kid! My brothers and I would spend a good amount of time on a Sat. riding our bikes up and down the back roads of Prince George Va. bottle hunting. After collecting bags of soda bottles we would ride 2-3 miles to the country store in Newville. Got 5 cents for each bottle. We would buy alot of Bazooka gum and other penny candies. Never got a chance to get a knife, sure wish I had. I loved the comics of Bazooka Joe and the gang! Cool knives, thanks for sharin' and thanks for the trip down memory lane! I stopped in at the local Boy Scout supply to see what the knives look like nowadays. As luck would have it they stll had one of the Camillus Lockback knives. Check it out.

A few months ago I walked into the knife shop at the Oldsmar, FL flea mkt and asked him if he had any old Kamp Kings or scout knives. He said he had a couple under the counter that had been sitting around. I took one look at them and scarfed them up. Check out the pics below.
