Don't trust myself without a knife much anymore Dave. This one's for Jerry and Producer, you don't know the influence you have. Those Camillus I keep seeing touched a nerve. After 6 days on the trail it finally arrived. Have not seen these blades on a Whittler, bought it thinking it was a Stockman. Love Whits so no problem. Excellent feel and sound to the snap, medium and smooth, no play, long pull, same small swell center size I love on the S&M Whit and the Case Whits. Carries like a smaller knife. Wow men, you were right. Never thought I would be into Camillus, proving without doubt once again that just being here on this sight is dangerous: dangerous to your financial situation, maybe your marriage, for sure your addiction free status, and the fingers that get nipped.

That is a beautiful knife, but if you are saying that it is a whittler, then we are in for a couple of pages of argument! Whittler or stockman, it is a fine knife.

I'm not arguing with anybody. I'm saying what Camillus calls their knife.

  Let the purists draw hence. Every time this comes up, there seems to be a need to defend it. Camillus made the knife. Camillus introduced the knife. Camillus named the knife "Carpenter's and Whittler's knife" Later they dropped the "Carpenters" and just called it a "Whittler" so given all that and seeing that the blade compliment is different than a Stockman, it's a whittler.

Ready on the right.
Ready on the left.
All ready on the firing line.
Watch your targets.
Targets.

Big thanks Producer. GDogg, chuckled over that dead horse, nailed it. Blades look about full. Just one flaw. Looks like someone ground the kick down to make the main sit lower when closed. Either that or the factory did it. The result is the edge hits the spring when closed and puts a small ding in the edge. Will have to sharpen that out. And anyone know if these usually come with cutting edge curving in slightly towards the spine instead of straight out from tang to tip? Have to get used to it. And the grind is sabre on one side, flat on the other. Bit tricky to sharpen. Thanks for any thoughts.

If I can remember, I'll have to haul some out tomorrow and lay a straight edge on the blades. Just looking at pictures, the edge of the main blade looks straight to me. ::shrug::

Ivoryman, looked at my two Camillus built 72 Whittlers (REM & BSA); the kicks are ground identically to yours, as is the Western that Dogg displayed. I think your knife is as ground by the factory. OH

Thanks OH, really appreciate you checking and comparing yours. Thought it must have been previous owner. Kick shouldn't allow the main blade to hit the back spring where it's raised a bit at the swell center. Never seen one hit before and it dents the edge I just put on it. Bet you can guess how that makes one feel.

I-Man, I dug out my 72s this morning and checked the blades with a straight edge. I picked knives that still had the factory grind on them and discovered that all (I checked about a dozen) except two have a pronounced "sway" to the cutting edge of the blade from the "belly" up towards the tip, back to just in front of the kick. I had never noticed that before.

I've had/got some knives that are factory new or NOS and they do the same - sorta like too hard or too soft blade snap, blade rubs, etc. - you just get a knife with those annoying peculiarities sometime - then you just have to decide if you can live with it. OH
