I found this today in an antique store:
A Buck 313 Moose factory-second. It is the first knife that I have owned in this pattern.
It took me a bit to see why it was considered a second, but they missed when spinning the pin on the pile side. Still, that was enough that they removed the shield and ground off the tang stamp.
The knife should still make a good EDC, has the original factory edge on both blades, and looks unused, if a little dirty.
Question:. Should I put new handles on it, or just leave it alone? Buck knives are great, but plain black delrin is a little boring.
- Mark side - tang stamp ground off
- Pile side - mis-spun pin

Gun show in Duluth Mn. was a success according to the number of J.Rogers thistle tops I got (one) and the number of Buck 100's from the 1980"s I got (also one). The Buck I bought because it was only $20. I'm not sure if I have a 4 dot in my stash. The thistle top was $60 which I thought was very fair.____Dave

While at a gun show this last Saturday I picked up this little fellow and saw potential. Looks like the prior owner used a power grinder to try to sharpen this knife. My wife commented why do you want that beat up wornout knife? She complained all the way home...so this afternoon I asked her what she thought about this 'beat up and wornout knife".....she had no comment. This is a Western S-693 liner lock trapper. It has a good bit of blade loss but still has life as an EDC. The cost was only $5 and some elbow-grease to try to bring it back to life. Here are the pictures of what I had to start with, and then the end result.

I love seeing old knives rehabilitated and brought back into use!
Western had good knives, with good steel in the blades. I don't see many of them here in the SouthEast, but I have picked up a couple. Love 'em.
You did a fine job with that one!

IMO
Unused + Slanted bolsters + New (pretty) handles = One super cool Moose EDC!

Found these two in Annapolis yesterday.
1) a "NATIONAL KNIFE- N.J.-USA, 2-1/4" "Barlow" with nice scrimshawed bone scales , tang reverse is stamped, "surgical steel", JAPAN, mint cond. Blade etched "First Mate"
2) ROTGEN'S SUPERIOR CUTLERY, 2-3/4" Gentlemen's 4 blade. Very old, can't tell if it's bone or stag. Shield and pins rather high showing pocket wear in the bone or stag. No country of origin, pre-tariff. The term "Superior" was often used on Sheffield knives.
-Can't find anything on either brand. Any ideas or info welcome. Thanks J.O'.

I picked these up for 5 bucks apiece.
Camillus 71
Ulster Old Timer Barlow (Prince Albert knife)
FA Bower Barlow. Has a broken pen blade.
Jack knife with beautiful green celluloid handles. The tang stamp is to worn our to read. The only thing I can barely make out is KNIFE COMPANY in two lines.
