Great example of a Bone 881. If it was branded Schrade-Walden instead of Craftsman i bet the prices would have been 2-3X as much even though it is the same knife.

The title of the listing was "...Schrade Walden ...Craftsman ...etched bone..." and the tang stamp was clearly Schrade Walden in the images.

I may have posted this one before, but today is Fathers' Day, and this was owned by somebody's father's, father's, father's father in 1904 to 1920.

That's a rare one Cal, with that curved stamp. Nice!

Here is one that is a little unusual. Schrade Cut.Co. never made fixed blade knives. None. In nine years I have seen three with SCCO tang-stamps. The first two were identified by a respected researcher of Schrades as being made for them by Kinfolks. The third one is this one. I don't know who made it. The sheath was missing; that might have helped. Hammered pins and brass guard. Nice bone, with one chip at the butt. Probably marketed to boys, it is just shy of eight inches overall.

Very nice cuchillo, Cal. Like most old knives, it looks very well made. Surprising to me if they were marketed for boys. To me, back then everything was just made better. Does it feel like a well made, well balanced fixed blade knife or is the blade heavier? It must of cost a pretty penny. If I may, how long have you had it and how much did it run you? Thanks

Edit: I was asking because I came across one just like it and wasn't sure about its worth. I won the bid earlier today around 2:15 central time. It's a beaut. The blade looks Stout. No cracks or chips, the jigged bone is classic and was assured everything is tight. The photos are from eBay. Thanks, Cal, for assuring me it was well worth the price! If I hadn't seen your post with one just like it I would have probably passed on it.

A lot buy of what was said to be three 34OT's....two are, one of those had a short clip blade modified to a pseudo-Wharncliffe. The third turned out to be a 36OT. I like it, though it's smaller than what I usually carry. I still prefer my big Case 6375's.

Acquired this Stockman at the OKCA show this past April. It is worn, has some blade loss, the jigged bone covers are worn smooth and it has some bumps and bruises. However, it solid otherwise and is a somewhat rare pattern. In the 1926 Schrade catalog, it is called a "Premium Stock Knife, Texas Pattern with Oblique Bolsters". The pattern number is 08883. For further information on Premium Stock Knives see page 288 of Levine's Guide, 4th Edition. The unique features are the oblique slanted square bolsters that slant in the same (parallel) direction. Also, which is less frequently encountered is a pen blade (instead of say a Spey blade for example) at the other or opposite end. Feels good in hand like a well used bar of soap. Function is perfect with great W&T and no hint of any lateral blade movement from any of the blades when fully extended. Will make a great member of the EDC rotation. Thanks for looking, Lloyd

Regarding these 3 knives i just posted above: handles are black, i cannot tell if bone or synthetic. pattern # on back tang = not the earliest of S-W, but about when did this begin ?
If these are pre 1960 (which i think is the case), then handles likely are bone. there is no shrinkage of these 6 handle pieces.
I'm hoping for more info on this 810 pattern so please post.

There were some black "jigged" handle Schrade Waldens in the late 1950s that were not bone, not celluloid, and not Delrin, but they are very hard to differentiate from bone. I have handled some that I still am not sure about, and I have handled a LOT of old Schrades. I can usually tell even from a photograph, but not these beauties.

Thanks Calvin. Someone (could be me) needs to find these black jigged handles on a beater knife and then remove one side and saw through for a fresh surface and then examine with a loupe, and thus solve the mystery of 'Jigged Black'.

Those are some black beauties to be sure. I remember reading years ago LT posted about Schrade using black plastic composite handles from the 40's thru the 50's on some knives.

I am not a contributer to this thread as I don't have any old Schrades on a par with what is being shown here, but I do like to peek in and admire these beautiful old knives, thanks for showing them, they really are something special.

Roland those would be examples of catalog description of "Stagged" instead of Bone Stag.

And "Stagged" means synthetic material, correct ?
Hal do you think all of these jigged black handles are synthetic, and that none are bone ?
If synthetic as it seems they are, then this pre-Delrin plastic is as good as Delrin. There is no shrinkage and i have understood that all plastic knife handle material is subject to shrinking until Delrin was developed. It was the search for 'no shrinking' that led to Delrin.
Why did Schrade not continue with these non-shrinking black handle material ?

Lloyd your O8883 is a stellar find. Really, really nice.

Roland I like your little stockpile of 810's. The rough black peachseed (as I call it) makes for a nice utilitarian handle and looks good to my eye. I have a few s-w with the same handles, they are certainly not bone, but quite stable and have the same jig as classic peachseed. I would have much rather seen these handles continue on than delrin, because of the jig.

It is likely your knives are pin through bolsters as well, all the knives I have with these same type handles are pin through. Also I don't think this pattern survived to become swinden anyways (I could be wrong).

The 36ot is hard to come by for a "newer" schrade, if I'm not mistaken they were made for two years from 1990-92. Relatively small window, and I bet most of them were really put to work.
