These are growing on me fast! I am now looking for all of the variations that you fellas have shown on this thread! I used to be Barlows for me, now I got a new calling.... And thanks for the info Jerry. Did stop making these before they out of business or are there some with inked on tang marking. I guess you cant call it a stamp! I have a barlow that has no markings at all on it, but you by looking who made it!

The way I get it and from what I've observed; towards the end in an effort to use up stock, when they had excess stock that had been slated for SFOs but it didn't have the Camillus stamp they would grind off the stamp and etch on Camillus. I have a couple like that. You can tell because they just left the SFO (Stanley comes to mind) stamp on the pile side.

Here's an example. The SL6 was an SFO they made for Stanley Tool. This is the Stanley SL6.

Randy, you posted what I assume is your current pile a couple of pages back and this one confuses me. You say it's a Delrin® handle Scout but there's no Scout shield and the jigging is mostly worn off though the blades seem to be pretty much full. Do you suppose it could have started life as one of the white Scouts from '80-'84? (shown below)

Actually that one started life as a scout with black shrink a dink handles that I removed and replaced with deer stag. Sorry about not being clearer with one!

A couple of Schrade 863 and a Remington.
What's the tang stamps on the Schrades
Here is a set : SW bone,SW, Schrade NY USA and Schrade USA.

The Schrade is stamped Schrade NY USA and the Ulster is stamped Ulster USA 63.

I've used it several times and it's worked perfectly every time. Of course my bid wasn't always as high as it needed to be but the program worked just fine.

Ole Smokey with bone handles.
I see the Imperial has a bit of shrinkage but not to bad.Most have the handles falling off.Very hard to find a good one.

Thanks Grant! I was just looking at the Imperial a little closer. The mark side scale caught my eye! Its actually clear! The shield is embedded in the scale and is below the surface, and the black color is in the top layer of the scale. I was holding the knife up to the light when I saw the layer of clear (plastic, cell? I just cant tell).

Just look at mine from the side and looks clear plastic must start to loose colour.All I know is the handles don,t like heat.If you was to leave them out in the sun in the summer time where I live the handles shrink and would fall off.The says the handles where pre delrin .That put them around early 1960's or earlier.

I'd say late '40s into the 1950s.

Randy, it's very difficult to find one of those Imperial Scouts in that condition. They just don't come up very often. And congrats on the Ole Smoky. Those are difficult to find too but when you do, they all seem to be in factory condition. Great pair.

Jerry according to Goins the tang stamp on the Imperial dates 1935 to 1945. Your appraisal of the date is spot on! I was a luck find for sure. Just picked up this 1996 Orvis with display box. Etched for the Sacramento River. I fished on the Sacramento when I was a kid. Great place to catch Chinook Salmon, striped bass , catfish, and more! If they were ever done I'd like to find one etched for the American River. I live about 1000 yards from the American... anyway here's the pic!
