Yesterday our Lab stealthily grabbed a large, nearly new tub of spreadable butter off the kitchen counter and then took it downstairs to the back bathroom and devoured the entire tub of butter. The first we learned of the caper was several hours later when she began barfing on the carpet. This isn't the first time she has gone counter-surfing, so I went looking for evidence, and that's when I found the completely empty tub in the downstairs bathroom - it was licked clean. We had several hours of whimpering, drooling, barfing & pooping - she was clearly not comfortable. Today she seems fine. We'll feed her only rice and plain chicken for the next couple of days.
Maybe she was getting back at us for her Halloween costume?

Never had a problem with our Lab “counter surfing”. But her wagging tail can sure clear off the coffee table!

Labs are notorious consumers of anything and everything including non-consumables like rocks.

This is our second Lab (our first lived for over 15 years), so we are very familiar with their notorious consumption behavior. Our last Lab once ate all the wires from a bank of 6 automatic sprinkler valves. A friend of ours had a Lab that ate the gas line from his house to his BBQ grill. Luckily, the valve at the house was OFF.
I love Labs - best dogs we've ever had. Ours is scary smart & incredibly affectionate.

That's a really cute cat, Willy.
Here's my Triple L (Little Lounge Lizard) kitty in action. She seems to be saying, "kiss my kitty toe."

Surely, she wouldn't be saying that to the man who feeds her. Maybe a message meant for Anthony Rendon??

Looks like your pup is well on his way to becoming a fine antler retriever. Well done for both of you. I heard the tale of one such dog who became so proficient he would claim antlers that were still attached. He would just hold on tight and let the deer run.

Nice video, Doc, looks like you are well on your way to having a "shed" dog.
I have tried to come up with a "morel" dog, nothing doing.

This has been a roller coaster of a year for us. We had to suddenly let go of our Maddie back at the end of June, she is the dog with her head resting on the top of my wife’s head. My wife had as close of a bond with this dog that any human and animal can have. Her death was wrenching for both of us. Then back in October we had to let go of our Golden Kobi who was 14. We had him since he was 5 and he was my dog. I haven’t shared his loss until now, honestly it’s just been too painful. Kobi is the old dog in the pictures below. Christmas feels quite muted this year. Just can’t seem to get that Christmas joy of years past. It’s amazing how many reminders there are in the house of both dogs. And so many routines that one or the other would participate in with my wife or myself where we miss them everyday the most.
The same week we said good bye to Kobi, I was watching an episode of “The Dog Whisperer” and Caesar said something that brightened my heart. He was telling a couple that had a dog that was too aggressive for their new baby and they had to let the dog go to a different home, that it was okay to morn the loss but remember that the end of one relationship with this dog was the beginning of new relationship with another dog. Another dog would have a home that didn’t have one before.
Same is true in this home. In the picture with Kobi is Bristol our new pup. Her DNA tells us she is not a boxer mix, but is 1/2 pit bull, 1/4 Australian Cattle Dog and the rest is a mess of others. She is such a sweet dog. She is hilarious to be around and the most affectionate dog I’ve ever known.
Shortly after Maddie died we picked up Scout and she is 100% Golden Retriever. She adores me and loves to play the typical Golden Retriever games that I played with Kobi. Scout and Bristol love each other and play together constantly.
Both dogs were rescues. So the ending for our two beloved dogs has been the beginning for two other dogs. And for that I am truly blessed and grateful this holiday season.
Sorry the pictures are sideways, I don’t know how to fix them but if you click on them they are correct.

Mark a dog man needs a dog. It's just that simple. Kudos for taking in rescue dogs. There are so many excellent dogs sitting in shelters waiting to find a home that never get the opportunity like you've given those two.

Mark, your floor looks like mine. It's a constant chore of picking up the toys and non-toys. Nothing like having a toddler, back in the house

Thanks Phil. It has been a pleasure to serve. Kobi and I will be united in death. We had him cremated and I have told the people that need to know that his ashes are to be buried with me in my casket. I whispered in his ear that I loved him and I told him to wait for me, if he can, I will be along soon.
He died so peacefully and he wanted me there with him right to the end. So I held him and whispered so many things to him. Yes I am a dog man and he was a man’s dog. We belong together in the next life, at least sharing a coffin.
