I've been really digging my pair of 07 pre-mini-T's with the pen blade lately ... snappy little suckers
Now I know I'm pushing my luck with bringing up the pre-mini-T's above ... but the following could get me banished for even muttering such a thing on the Ode to the 07 thread

... any love for the 32 texas jack amongst the mini-T boys ... it's the same length, similar blade combination (at least to the old pre-mini-T's), but clearly different aesthetics. The newer ones even have this peculiar and actually quite stocky pen blade that fits in somewhere in between a wharncliffe & traditional pen ...

John, I am a big fan of the mid-size Jack knifes, 3¼" closed up to about 3¾" closed and even the occasional 3" closed. Those look swell.

Sorry, John, but the 32 frame just doesn't have the same graceful curves or "sex appeal" as the 07. A rounded (instead of a square) head bolster would definitely be an improvement IMHO. YMMV.
Although, if you were to put a Wharncliffe on the 32 instead of a Clip blade, I honestly believe The Monkey would discover a whole new focus for his OCD (even more so if you removed the pen blade as well).

Hey Q - yep, agreed on the sexiness - 07 def has the curves. I thought about a little mod to the stocky pen blade on a modern 32 ... wouldn't take much to make it into a little stubby wharnie secondary ....wheels are turning

We might just be able to do that.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but if we take a little diversion - what ye think ... yay or nay (I'm on the fence) ------> ?

Yay...Absolutely, unequivocally, positively, 100% Yay...no doubt about it. (The Monkey has yet to see a Wharncliffe mod concept he didn't like and this one is no exception.)
So what are you waiting for? Get your indecisive fence-sitting hind end in gear right now, run, don't walk to your shop, fire up the Dremmel tool troops and activate the sandpaper reserves. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Another Wharncliffe mod victory is yours for the taking. (The hardest part will be coming up with an appropriate name for your newest creation.)

I'm sure we'll all be keeping an eye on the threads featuring small jacks to see what eventually emerges from the diabolical Dr. Lansky1's infamous laboratory.
Meanwhile...Back to our regularly scheduled programming...
Ever since I discovered Case's beautiful Peacock Appaloosa bone I've searched high and low and far and wide for a Mini Trapper swathed in such sartorial splendor. Unfortunately, much like the mythical 5207W, I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that Case never birthed such a beast (despite using Peacock Appaloosa bone on practically every other pattern in their entire line, apparently).
So, I was forced to admit defeat and accept the Peacock's less-attractive step-sister: Green Appaloosa
I wonder if I could fool The Monkey into believing it's actually Peacock Appaloosa by doing a little strategic touch-up with a blue Sharpie.

Or you could tell him this Doctors knife is actually a limited run special edition 6107 in disguise.

Well, jerryd, I appreciate the suggestion; unfortunately however, I already attempted the old "limited run special edition 6107 in disguise" trick once before using a Slimline Trapper, so The Monkey is wise to my chicanery. To paraphrase Dirty Harry, I'm afraid I'd look pretty silly with a Doctor's knife sticking in my
okole!

Those are some fine, fine Slimline examples you have there. I'm starting to become accustomed to you having the best.
As far as fooling the monkey goes, it's your monkey so you know him better than I.

Still......a good looking substitute. Like yourself, I've never seen a 07 in Peacock Appaloosa bone. But I do know they made the 154 Tiny Trapper in that color.

Thanks PB ! I've seen people refer to that genre of 70's and 80's "mottled brown" as appaloosa bone - it definitely has more "figure" to the coloration than typical brown bone. I'm not entirely sure if the appaloosa tag is true or not, as appaloosa is seen more often in the dyed varieties where it really shows off its nuances.

Yes, much to The Monkey's consternation Case has released the 54 Trapper, the 154 Tiny Trapper and the 048 Slimline Trapper in Peacock Appaloosa bone...as well as Gunstock, Copperhead, Russlock (both Drop Point & Clip blade versions), Cheetah (both regular & Cub), Doctor (both regular & Baby)--these are just the patterns I used to own but I know there are others.
Anyway...moving right along....
True to his OCD nature, the Monkey, having become preternaturally fixated on Appaloosa Bone during my fruitless search for the elusive Peacock, nevertheless managed to snag this Purple Appaloosa Bone 6207, effectively doubling the size of my nascent 07 Appaloosa Bone pile.

No, unfortunately it does not (much to OCD Monkey's dismay

). I haven't really studied the issue too much, only observed that sometimes Case used the "A" in the pattern number on Appaloosa Bone handled knives and sometimes did not...haven't yet figured out why. I have noticed that the "A" seems to have been used more consistently on certain patterns, though, such as the Appaloosa Bone Barlow

Very nice "Q". So you could technically call it a Purpaloosa?

Sorry, had to say it!

This came in today. Very pleased. Froggy approves. It was listed as used and does not have a box, but the condition is like new. The pile side does have a little more color than the shield side.
