Don't know age or how obscure, but I've never seen another. Pretty good bone too, like Rogers bone, but I don't know if it's old enough to be.

Iman that’s a beautiful knife I checked Goins and all it says is Germany no dates or other information? Definitely obscure! Great find though, a lot better than the one I posted.

In a search Elder MFG. Co has been in clothing bussness in St. Louis since 1916

Houston Price says "ELDER & Co." Germany. No "Mfg Co." included, or date ??? Nice knife J.O'.

Me too when I got it and couldn't find much except the company is still around selling clothes. I jumped on it because I had never seen another and the bone was exactly how I like it. There is a guy who makes really nice knives and marks them with old or obscure stamping and the top line is always in an arch. Could this be one of his knives ?

Reading 71 pages is a tall order. Any clues as to which pages would help to understand Iman's "Elder MFG. CO." knife ?

Sorry Dimitri. I read the first sentence: "Ivoryman, read this thread from page one all the way through" and did not realize that you were referring to the link posted underneath.
This has happened before. I need to slow down as i read so i will be less likely to miss something significant.
I did just read all 8 pages of the link.
So Iman's knife is a recently made fake similar to the ones shown in the linked to thread. Even though "fake", all these knives look to be very well made and are very 'eye-catching'. If the blades have been properly tempered then they would be a good user.
I have 3 of these recent fakes, all from ebay over the space of about 2 years (i.e. not from same seller at same time). I knew they were 'too good to be true' and so therefore almost certainly fakes. No one was bidding on them so i ended up paying about $25-$30 each.

So yes, they are not originals, as I stated in that thread I think they were made by a knife factory for someone as they are too good quality and very consistent in their manufacture.

I would like to have one as I would carry it and use it on a daily basis and find out how good the temper is and overall how well it would hold up.

Well i just happen to have one with your name on it ! It's a 3 1/2" Swell Center Jack with fancy bolsters and caps. 'Course a Miller Bros knife in this near mint condition is pretty rare so you might have to pay up for shipping

That looks just like a Bluegrass Cutlery Black Box Winchester.

The Elder knife posted is a good example of looks new because it is new. Being there are few if any Elder knives to use as comparators is a reason such obscure stamps have been used for these more modern knives that are often passed for old. It is, as I said a nice looking knife with beautiful Rogers bone handles but it is not as old as the knife would like you to believe.
