Scott that True Temper Maul looks great

If the price is reasonable, I will pretty much pick up anything with True Temper stamped on it.

Sorry Scott, I was commenting to Rich about the Plumb half hatchet. For some reason my post was delayed between sending and posting.
Nice find on the maul, though. The handle appears to be plastic of some kind, in a manly shade of pink. How is that to use?

P&C Tool 8715 Half Hatchet, Tube Steel handle (aka carpenter's hatchet).
Belonged to my great-granddad, who used it for splitting kindling. I rescued it from a pile of basically scrap metal I found in the old coal bunker in the basement and cleaned it up. It tends to accompany me for most jobs when I may need a hammer or hatchet, but don't need the dedicated tools. I'm slowly learning how to sharpen axes, and I'm getting an edge now that is better suited to chopping and felling than just splitting.
P&C was founded in 1915 in Idaho and moved to Oregon in 1923. They were bought out by Plomb (Proto) in 1941, and remained with them through several buyouts. While the production of P&C-branded tools ended in 1974, they continued making items for Proto's sub-brands until 1990.
https://www.pnctools.com/pc-factory/pc1941-1990/
They say that Miller's Falls started producing carpentry tools for P&C in 1965, which is the first year this model shows up. Miller's Falls produced a camper's "belt axe" that was also sold as P&C, but this one definitely isn't from Miller's Falls. It bears a strong resemblance to a True Temper product from the Jet Rocket line, even down to the red-painted collar between the handle and head. Thus, I believe it to be rebranded True Temper.

Hey Cody, nice piece. I thought “Rocket” as soon as I saw it.
My old buddy Jeff has a thing for those hammers, grew up with them. I pick them up for him when I find them.
One unique feature is, although the tubing at the head end is round, where it meets the handle it’s oval shaped. Took me a while to visualize how they did that.

I find a lot of Collins axes, but never with an older label on it. Those are Sweet!

...

So far, I found this information;
HOMESTEAD BRAND
The earlier HOMESTEAD labels were quite detailed and used in at least two different sizes. Versions of both generation labels have also been observed printed in black on white paper and black and gray on white paper. These versions were used in catalogs although Collins did use a variety of black on white labels over the years.
The HOMESTEAD brand was used over such a period of time that the label design was modernized at some point, possibly during the late 1950s or early 1960s. That updating also resulted in some of the labels being printed in blue and white on gold colored foil as compared to the traditional paper.

Couple years ago when steel got real high, I filled two mud buckets up with maul heads and wedges, and took them to the scrap yard. Hope I never see another maul the rest of my life. Unless it comes with a sweet little Plumb Cruiser.

Finds over the weekend. Four True Tempers, 2 axes, two hammers One ax head is from the Forestry Service). A Craftsman ax head and a hatchet with Boy Scout's handle, too much rust to read the ax head... but I only paid a $1.00 for so I'll take it as it is...

Those are some good finds, buddy. You’ll have them cleaned up and sharpened in no time.
Found this little handforged hawk at the swap meet this weekend. The seller was firm on his price, wouldn’t budge a dollar. So I left it with him for about an hour, then came back and bought it.
Some previous owner had painted some goofy bright stripes on the haft, and tied some fake leather lacing around it. Those came off quickly, and it’s less self conscious now.
Head is 13-1/2 oz, on a 15” haft. Feels good to swing it. I might try making a new haft with a little flare butt.
