GDog Very nice way to end gun season !!
Let this Buck go last day of early bow season . He broke a tine recently and looked all worked up so let him pass . He’s lucky the freezer is full . The 9 day gun season was slow for the crew . Erin got this Buck out on the farm land behind our place . So ladies this year 3 bucks , guys 0 . Was still a great season. The last pic is a skull we found last year . It appeared he died of old age or ! The carcass was lying next to some deadfall. Inside spread is just over 24 inches !!
Old Hunter , best of luck hunting with your friend.

These are all red deer/stags, aside from the little spotty fallow.

Red stag antlers are used for knife making but not quite as hard and dense as sambar. I think people really like the marketing of sambar so demand it.

I'm not a knife maker but I play around with making knives. I did one for my brother last year in red stag antler, it's held up quite well under his abuse.

Thank you,

Unfortunately the pup in the bottom photo was killed about a week after that hunt. The mum in the above photo is booked in to get put down next week, cancer has got the old girl. It'll be sad as they're great dogs, hunters and friends.

I hunt wherever I can, but I mostly hunt here in Australia. Hoping to get to the states in the next few years to either hunt whitetIl in the east or mule deer or elk out west. I prefer flintlocks so might go east I think.

Thanks for the info, and I see in the above post you're in Australia. Should have guessed it from the rabbit. There's lots of good hunting here on the East Coast, although not as many rabbits as I once remember. Lots of game birds too.

Just for s&g's I looked up Red deer, here's what Wiki had to say-

It is remarkable how much they resemble other deer species.

Bushfire, ::welcome:: to AAPK!
I deducted from your great pictures that "you're not from around here".
I noticed flint lock, percussion and modern rifles, must be quite a difference between the flint lock and the bolt action.
Hope to see more from you on the forum. ::tu::!

Thanks for the welcome sir.

Yes it is quite a difference but I like the challenge, and you can’t beat all that smoke!

Decided to get back out amongst em one more time - shot a 100 lbs. doe with my Marlin M1894 chambered in 41 REM MAG. The discontinued Winchester Supreme, 240 grain Platinum Tip JHP bullet is a killer at 150 yards or less (this doe shot through the heart at 70 yards). OH
