My Lucky Day !! Picked up these two in a pawn shop in Salisbury, MD this afternoon. A 3-5/16" celluloid "picture" knife, probably from the twenties, great blades and snap. Mark is unreadable but it has to be CANTON, NOVELTY, AERIAL, LACKAWANNA, WABASH, or GOLDEN RULE, for five bucks!
Now, here's the lucky part. A 3-9/16" CHALLENGE, Harness knife in good shape. It was very dirty, blades rusted shut.
Guy said, "You can have that rusty one for nothing"! Took me ten minutes to clean it up a little.

J.O'.
Two beautiful old survivors there, Ridgegrass!

Here are my finds over the weekend at the local flea-market. A Swiss Army Knife, a Vaughan roofing hatchet and a Collins Hudson Bay axe.

Very Nice. Vaughan been around for many years. Used one of their Roofing Hatchets (or I think technically they called it a riggers or rig builders hatchet) for a couple of summers in my younger days. I believe they are still producing them here in the U.S.
Thanks! The next step is to clean the axes up in a vinegar bath, redo the handle on at least the Collins, and get a good edge on them. Then, put them to WORK! Or at least put them in the pile of other old tools I never get around to using....

Found this CLAUSS #50 Jack in Easton, MD today. Nice shape, Winterbottom-style jigging, 3-1/8". No shield. Pretty little knife. Wonder who made it?
Some were Schatt and Morgan. Hard to say? J.O.

I thought maybe they were linked to Case somehow?

I think so. I've also seen more than a few Camillus made, but those were made in the '70s and '80s. There's a red handle grafting knife (basically a copy of the Victorinox) as well as a Stockman with just a coping blade designed as a floral/grafting knife.

Levine says Schatt & Morgan made some for Clauss around 1925. I've heard Case also and maybe some others. The jigging could be a clue. Anybody know about that ? J.O'.

From the gun show today, a 32 cal. 5 shot Defender (it's days of defending are over, now it's a wall flower but it does work) $50, a Remington 2004 NRA Baby Bullet, $20, a High Carbon stockman with nice bone, unmarked Swedish chip carver, a MS LTD (Case XX) Canadian sailors knife and a Ducks Unlimited Schrade in the wrong sheath, all for $30, and a Boker Magnum for $15. No real treasures this time but some stuff to play with or give to grandkids.____Dave
