All About Pocket Knives

Thanks Skip, Colonials don't get much respect I guess

Here is a Colonial jack at 3 3/4" closed. 1/2 stops X 2.
The back was ground so the springs and the liners and the covers were smooth, almost.
If this was all you had you'd be well served. Not a bad knife.

This morning, this "hobo" pattern or style of pocket knife, arrived in a group or lot of pocket knives that I bought. It now becomes my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. I did NOT buy the group or lot of pocket knives to obtain this particular "hobo" pattern or style of pocket knife. But, it did turn out to be a keeper. It did get added to my general, pocket knife accumulation. It is a COLONIAL, one blade, three tools (a fork, a spoon, and a can opener), 3 1/2" closed (not including the bail), three stamps, a long blade pull, two springs, "hobo", pattern or style of pocket knife. The fork, back stamp says, "STAINLESS (over) COLONIAL (over) PROV. U.S.A." The spoon, back stamp says, "STAINLESS (over) COLONIAL (over) PROV. U.S.A." The can opener, back stamp says, "U.S.A." Oddly enough, there is NOTHING AT ALL on the blade. The blade does NOT have a half stop. The blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The blade does have a GOOD closing snap. ALL three tools have a GOOD half stop. ALL three tools open and close with no issues. This pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT need any cleaning. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

Yesterday morning, this gentleman's or lobster, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife, arrived in a group or lot of pocket knives that I purchased. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. I did NOT purchase the group or lot of pocket knives to obtain this particular pocket knife. However, it did turn out to be a keeper. It did get added to my general, gentleman's or lobster, pocket knife accumulation. It is an Ambassador, two blades, two tang stamps, 3/4" X 2 1/4" closed (not including the bail), gentleman's or lobster, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "Ambassador (over) USA" The secondary blade front tang stamp says, "Ambassador (over) USA" The "USA" is obscured or partially obscured on both of the blades. The main blade does have a GOOD half stop. The main blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The main blade does have a GOOD closing snap. The secondary blade does have a GOOD half stop. The secondary blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The secondary blade does have a GOOD closing snap. This pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT require cleaning.
I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

Very recently, this advertising pocket knife, arrived in a group or lot of NON-CUTLERY items that I bought. It is now, my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. I did NOT buy the group or lot of items to obtain this particular pocket knife. But, it did turn out to be a keeper. It did get added to my general, advertising, pocket knife accumulation. It is a BAYES, one blade, one tang stamp, 3 1/2" closed, tipped bolsters, advertising, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "BAYES (over) U.S.A." (a COLONIAL brand). The main handle side says, "DRINK - Coca Cola - Trade-mark® - IN BOTTLES" with 5¢ and a Coca Cola bottle, to the right. The main blade does NOT have a half stop. The main blade does NOT have an opening snap. The main blade does NOT have a closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT need any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

Here is an interesting fixed blade. In all my years of knife collecting, I think this is the first bone handled older Colonial knife I have ever seen.

K'holic. Here's another of the Colonials, Dead ringer for yours, no markings. I really like the sheath graphics on yours, almost looks home done. They also have great bones. The white one is also a 1940's boy's Colonial. Regards, J.O'.

Last weekend, I drove to a suburb of Providence, RI to buy a group of about 90 Colonial knives from a family who had several relatives who had worked for Colonial. These pics show about half of the knives that I bought.

A couple new ones finally getting pics. The collection is getting bigger, I may have to photo it all together again. Standby !

Haven't been on here for a few years, but recently received a few knives my dad had in his possession before he passed. My niece sent them to me because apparently nobody else in the family care about them. Anyway, I thought I would show off a couple of interesting items. First, An "Old Cutler" "RAP Cutler" stag stockman. My dad used to work at Yellowstone park during the summers back in the mid/late 90s and bought this at the General store near where he worked. I've only seen a few of these RAP stockmen, but never one with a special etched blade such as this. Any thoughts?

And here's a couple more of my dad's that I've been hanging onto for many years...

Welcome back GlennH. Old Cutlers are a very under appreciated line of knives. Quality made with quality steel. Congrats on getting it. And it being one of your dad's knives makes it even better.
