I seem to be revisiting a lot of classics. Currently reading Grapes of Wrath. Read Travels with Charlie a while back.

I’m on day 203 of reading the Bible in a year… all 73 books thereof.

Today was more of the books of Isaiah, Habakkuk and Proverbs.

Can’t believe it took me 68 years to finally commit to reading the entire Bible.

Amen… best book(s) I ever read.

It wasn't your commitment to reading the Bible, it was your commitment to overcome the enemy who will do anything and everything possible to convince you not to read it, and throw out any stumbling block he can to stop you.

I’m currently reading The Lyman’s Reloading Handbook. Hoping to make time to do a little .225 Winchester reloading soon.

I've been reading this off and on for a few years. It's a gruesome true tale of the Philippine death march and the troops that rescued the POW's.

I read it, that is a great book! There is a second book also out, I read that as well, I can't name the author off hand. Both are worth the read!

I have been reading these books on WWII, They are from the German perspective, lots of pages to read ... ... 35 pages to go on Jump into Hell, 1/2 of the way through operation Market Garden and the other ones read and done with...

Just finished this I picked up at a used bookstore. Pretty good read. My first from James Lee Burke, I’ll be looking for some more. Also picked up a copy of the latest from Tom Clavin, Follow Me to Hell. I’ve read a few of his histories of the Old West, and enjoyed them. He does a good job of researching his subjects and making history read like a novel.

Burke is my all time favorite. Winner of a couple of Edgar Awards and excellent story teller. Gets a little spacey on occasion.

Jame lee Burke is a favorite of mine for the robiceaux series and others.

Currently reading this book written by a WW II Japanese destroyer Captain. An interesting look from a different POV. Well written and edited.

I recently retired and I have a lot more time on my hands these days. I think I’m going to take up reading as a way to pass some time while I’m sitting around doing nothing.

This series looks like a good place to start. Is it best to start with the first book in the series? (Open Season)

I recommend starting with the first of the series and try to read them in order. Although each one is written such that it can be a stand-alone mystery, there are some recurring characters that are introduced, especially in the earlier stories. Some are good guys, and some are bad actors who disappear for several novels and then re-appear (like return after they get out of prison). Having read the novel where they were introduced you will know more about them and their relationship with the main character, how and why they are involved, etc. Otherwise you’ll probably get just a one or two sentence backstory explaining them. You’ll also get to know Pickett’s “every man” persona and his faults, and his sometimes acrimonious relationship with other law enforcement personnel.

One cautionary note is that IIRC Open Season was the author’s first novel. It’s not bad but certainly not his best. It does introduce Pickett and some other characters, and explains his personality. The author gets better at his craft as the series goes on. I try to get them as soon as possible when they’re released, but when I buy one my wife usually beats me to reading them - she has become a big fan.

Box is a master at plot twists and surprise endings. Enjoy!

Just finished YANKEES UNDER SAIL, a book of reprints from YANKEE magazine. It's a compilation of sea stories of New England maritime activities including whaling, shipbuilding, classic yacht racing, figure-head carving, and the like. Very enjoyable. Big hardback, $1 at a thrift store, J.O'.

I’m currently reading the first book in the Joe Pickett series authored by C.J. Box.

I was blown away when one of our upstanding members offered to send me the books in the series that he has already read. Included in the package were 12 books in the series and as if that wasn’t enough, he also tossed in a GEC Bull Nose!

I’m enjoying Open Season so far and these books are sure to entertain me for a good long time.

Book 2 in the Joe Pickett series.

Last night I finished reading “Trophy Hunt” the 4th book in the Joe Pickett series by C.J. Box. Interesting story for sure. I’m already seeing what Ken meant when he said each book is better than the last one. With 24 books in the series, I can only begin to imagine the entertainment that lies ahead.

I’ll be taking a brief break from the Joe Pickett series. My wife handed me this book the other day that she recently picked up for me.

Ever since late 1977, the progressive rock band RUSH has always been my favorite band. Neil Peart was their drummer and lyricist. When on tour, the rest of the band and crew would hop on the band’s tour busses and travel to the next concert venue.

Neil chose to ride his motorcycle instead. This book is mostly about those journeys.

Just finished William Johnstone Remington 1894.
As is my SOP to alternate between fiction and non-fiction, I begin this one
