I'm sorry to hear this Philip, but I know your heart and I know your faith. No doubt you are relieved that she is no longer suffering, but I know there's a huge hole in your heart where the other half of you once lived.
I pray the Lord’s grace, peace and comfort be on you and your family.

As Marines we have our motto "Simper Fidelis." We know that our Lord is "Always Faithful!"
God bless you my brother!

Prayers and condolences from the Royal family.
The wife and myself were privileged to have met you and Ms Joy a few years ago,
a brief visit we still remember fondly.

Phil I’m very sorry for the sorrow you’re dealing with. You’ve shared enough with us in FCD for me to know you love Miss Joy with all your heart. We can all take comfort in knowing she’s now with Jesus and her battle with sickness and pain is finished. I pray God will continue to comfort you as you mourn and strengthen you as you move forward. God bless you.

So sorry to read about Miss Joy, Philip. I know she fought the good fight, but now she is not struggling or in pain anymore. I know that provides little comfort right now, just know we are all thinking about you, please reach out if you need to.

I reckon it's time to close this thread.
I want to thank those who prayed and posted notes of encouragement for Miss Joy as we negotiated this stage 4 pancreatic cancer to the end. I read them to her and our children read them, we are grateful.
Tuesday evening when we realized Joy was getting close to leaving for her heavenly home, we planned her celebration of life sitting around the dining room table. Wednesday morning she made me a widower. The following days were like a blur, Friday we made plans with the funeral director, Sunday morning the immediate family accompanied me to church. That afternoon we viewed the body and were pleased with the funeral home's work.
Monday evening we had an old fashioned viewing/visitation at the church. Over 200 people came by the open casket where we greeted each one as they expressed their condolences.
Tuesday morning we participated in a wonderful celebration of life! A soloist sang "It is well with my soul", the congregation sang "Victory in Jesus" and "I'll fly away" before the pastor and a retired missionary spoke of Joy's life and preached the Gospel.
The short grave side service was followed by a great meal for family and friends in the fellowship hall at the church.
Late Tuesday afternoon I asked the children if they would take me back to the grave site where we stood for a few minutes and then I thanked the Lord for almost 59 years with the mother of our 3 children and all the wonderful things we had experienced together.
Here's a picture that really got me, the mini-dachsund wondering what's going on with his mistress:

Thank you again for helping us go through this bittersweet time.

What a wonderful salutation, Philip, albeit, bittersweet and still emotionally hard. This thread may be closed, but our hearts are still fully open to you and your family. I continue, along with many, many others, to pray for the Lord's guidance as you move forward. You are a spiritually strong man, Philip, and I commend you for all the times you found time to come back here over the days and weeks and provide us updates on Miss Joy, your wellbeing and how your family was doing during this time of grieving. It's obvious the Lord provided you with His strength to do this.

Blessings to you and your family. My heart also goes out to Miss Joy's dachshund. He is grieving too, but without understanding why.

Thinking it was time to close this thread has proved not to be true. We have been blessed with several special expressions of love and concern that I want to share with you folks that have followed this part of life at Starvation Plantation.
Earlier doglegg blessed me with a special book and knife to help us through this tough time :

A couple of weeks ago dlr110 asked if he could make some wood burning art to honor Joy. Yesterday this beautiful live edge plaque arrived in the mail :

We chose the title of the solo hymn that was sung at the celebration of life, "It is well with my soul" to be inscribed by David's talented hand.
Thanks to these brothers for going the extra step and thank you again to all that have expressed concern for our family.
