LF&C Candle-End Lobster - 3" closed with waterfall celluloid with a spear blade and file implement on other side... one of my few celluloid handled knives... bonus was the old knife pouch.. supposedly this sat in a drawer for 60 years...

Thanks Jay ... I was looking at pattern names for these knives in Levines this afternoon and I think some folks referred to the name as a dolphin ... Despite my feelings about celluloid the waterfall pattern on the handle is mesmerizing in the light when you turn the knife ..

Thanks Lee and Ken for your nice comments on my four tipped bolster folders on the previous page! I got the small celluloid NYKC Hammer Brand Whittler at the OKCA show a few years ago. The dealer I bought it from was reluctant to let it go at first and told me to come back so he could think on it So I left empty handed and sort of mad he wouldn’t give me a price on it even though it was in his for sale display. I had bought from him before with no issues or concerns but he for some unknown reason to me he was not forthcoming about a price. I went back later in the day and he quoted me a price and we dickered back and forth and I got it for what I thought was a fair price. It is in remarkably nice condition considering its age since NYKC went out of business in 1931. Shows no sign of out gassing (at least yet ) and the blades show no evidence of post production sharpening. The littler Whittler really was a blaze of changing color in his display (almost like a blinking beakon light) and that may be a reason he did not want to let it go. It literally changed colors as you approached his display and drew you in! Really stood out from the rest of his knife inventory. Anyway, wonderful little Whittler from a great Cutlery Company long ago gone

Lloyd, that celluloid I have seen on several Robeson knives. Actually, it is one of their more common celluloid patterns.

It can be very vivid, but I think exposure to light, over time, causes it to fade. I've seen some that have faded to a dull orange.

This Robeson will flash red and green and black as rotated. Not a tip-bolstered knife, just showing another cell handle like Lloyd's New York Knife above.

I am especially partial to the equal end whittlers, the lobsters and the 4 blade senators, so I guess pretty much all of them.

Here is a Fidelity Knife Co New York with the tip bolsters stamped out of the liners. I am not sure how well the pictures show this.

I picked up this nice Wards tip bolster pen today at our local flea market for a couple of bucks. Still in nice usable shape.

Love the tip bolsters. I need more of them..

Very recently, I acquired this CAMILLUS 60. It is a 3 blade, 3 1/8" closed, milled liners, "split spring" whittler pocket knife.
